Well learned folks,

In the last few days I experienced this;
-original Remington NMA with Slix Shot, no issues at all
-Ruger Old Army with Classicballitx cylinder and Tresos, hardly any issues save the odd expanded cap jamming up the works
-Ruger Old Army with factory cylinder, factory nipples, three jams today from Remington #10 caps and 'regular loads'

Only fired six times with the NMA but I put about 72 rounds through the ROA on two separate days, starting with a clean gun each day.
When I pushed the limits of the ROA with hot loads, I backed off because of disintegrating caps. Majority of shooting was with reasonable loads.
I am not sure if this is a string of up and down quality caps that only today decided to plague me, or is Slix Shot the way to go?

Advice please?

The left hand one was the first target. The right hand one was my and best third target after a sight adjustment of three clicks up versus the first try.

20 yards. Slowly getting better, still have not found THE load for it.
I find with the plow handle grip, it's like starting revolver shooting from square one again as I rarely shoot SA.
I am getting the impression that BP handguns perform their very best from a clean barrel.
Maybe or maybe not??

Cheers!

What type of jams? If the spent caps are jamming, just tilt the gun. Everytime I shoot, as I pull the hammer back, I tilt the gun to the right, this way any loose remnants fall out. I read somewhere that that is why you see in really old movies where they are shooting cap and ball, they raise the gun barrel high to #### it. I find tilting it works best.

If your cylinder binds up, just wipe the cylinder rod and inside the cylinder with boreshine. I do this every two or three cylinders full.

Previously the caps behalved just fine. Now I find occassioanlly the they will petal out like a German iron cross from WW1 or a four leafed clover. These petals are mostly responsible for the jamming up the action. Sometimes they fall free, sometimes they stay in place but just stay clear of the cylinder and frame and sometimes I have to stop and release the cylinder to clear it once again. I think that raised barrel tilt is something most often done with an open top design such as the Colt or Manhattan.
I was wondering if this is something that is a common failing with the Remington Number 10s? Because most of the internet recommends these ones over the CCI cap. And I have never personally seen the RWS magnum cap.
