Another Creedmoor thread: is this the most sales for a caliber?

It’s not magic but sure checks a lot of boxes. Was at a private range with a couple of guys a week ago. To verify my early fall come ups I went right to 1000 yds with my first shot out of the rifle and center punched a 14x14” steel plate at that distance. Witnessed. That’s an 8lb rifle and a 9x scope. I have found this cartridge to be very consistent accuracy wise, as well as very predictable when loading for it. It’s accuracy has been well proven, heck it was born with accuracy in mind as a competition cartridge.

The only success that I have noticed is it's popularity. Lets see some tight groups on targets from hunting rifles. Moreover, lets see some trophy bucks and bulls that were killed beyond 300 yards! This cartridge must bring out the best in hunters and shooters.

Popularity is a pretty large part of anything being "successful"

Look up, maybe you will see a cloud to yell at? Laugh2

I think the Creedmoor is a fine cartridge and, like the 300 WSM, it clearly demonstrates the power of marketing and taking advantage of trends at the right time. Keep in mind, the Creedmoor varies little from other cartridges which have been in use for decades but just happened to come along when the marketplace was receptive and it has been pushed in just the right way. Will it surpass the 30/06, 308, and 223? Probably not. It's pretty hard to beat cartridges which were and are, US military rounds.
On another note: I have been involved in the gunsmithing trade for over forty years and know the difference between the terms "caliber (or calibre) and cartridge. However, I know that many people use the two terms interchangeably. So it is, when someone looks at one of my rifles and asks "what caliber is that?", I am aware that he is asking what cartridge it is chambered for and I answer him that way. It's kind of an automatic translation. It doesn't bother me and I feel no need to launch into a lecture on proper terminology. Much like when my wife tells me something is in the bottom drawer on the left, I automatically translate that to mean the top drawer on the right and everything works out fine. I get what I'm after and don't bother with any correction.

I have nothing against the 6.5 Creedmoor, I think its a nice little cartridge. The extravagant marketing of this product has propagandized a frenzy to a new high.....for the trendy followers.

There's no way it will ever touch .308win/7.62x51, .223rem/5.56x45, 7.62x39, etc. It's still just a niche cartridge. Gaining popularity for sure, but I bet if you broke down ammunition and firearm sales (Somehow?), it would make up a fraction of 1%. Maybe a couple % if you were to not include military use. Just for the record, I've never owned one, never shot one, have nothing positive or negative to say about it.

Edit: I guess I was thinking centerfire. .22lr would eclipse everything else by a massive margin, I'm sure.

I will never touch the 6.5 CM soley because of its popularity among shooters trying to make up lack of skill and knowledge with BC marketing. 6.5 CM is the Tap Out T-Shirt of the shooting world.

I just handled one of those savage lightweights for the first time the other day, and was impressed how much I liked it.

Is this another thread similar to "Hail the Real King of the 375's?"
As in the Undisputed Heavy Weight of the world the 375 H&H ?
Cause this round the Credmoor has a long way to go to catch up to that thread, lol.
And the only one looking up to see the cloud is the guy wearing the pink dress.

The reason theres none on the shelves is because supply is limited. For every 6.5CM theres 100 308s, 3006, 270 etc.Theres always a bunch of them available.

Interesting, over here on the west Ive been searching for a rifle in 7-08 but all I can find is 6.5 creeds in just about every make and model in every gun store! Maybe the fad is petering out here... Almost bought one myself but have never been much of a band wagon jumper lol.
