Another custom 6xc!

Every gun is different ..... But VLD's like to be jammed. I promise I'm not steering you wrong.

To find the best results your just going to need to test.

Take note as well that over time due to wear n tear the gap to your lands will increase. You will notice accuracy drops over time and will need to "chase" the lands. Were talking over a long time... 2-3000 rounds. If it gets to bad you just re cut the barrel chamber.

Your bullet does not touch all the lands right away at the same time. Think of your rifling like a screw, one land will kiss the bullet first. I think this is why the narrow VLD's like to be jammed.

Ps. Bergers rock.

Longshot I just built a 6mm slr that is close to your 6xc in speed I am shooting 105 berger vld's and they group well at 100 and 200 with them jamed in between 10 to 15 thou .
However they also group very well with them jumped about 40-50 thou and I am getting less vertical with them jumped but loosing speed about 50 fps.

There is an article on 6mmbr.com about bergers and jump. Having good results with a lot of jump.

I think I read it like a year ago +. Go take a look for it. Lots of other good articles there as well.

I jam personally simply because it works well. Very well.

So I managed to get out and shoot the rounds with H 4831sc. There were quite a few sub 1" groups at 200m. Barrel now has 120 rds through it. I'm going to have to go back on a cooler day and retest because the mirage was pretty bad. My testing ended at 40gr and I'm betting there is a node above that somewhere. German Salizar went to 43gr with moly coated 115s so I'm thinking my hbn coated ones should be able to get close.

Off to the range in the morning again to try and beat the heat. Might fire my heavier loads first this time. Going to get up to 42 gr of H4831sc this time. Stopped at 40gr last time. I'm hoping there is a node around there somewhere.

So I got to fire up to 42 gr of H4831sc. The weather was good with no wind but it was hot again and mirage was an issue again. Once again I had a few groups that were sub 1" at 200m. The smallest was .71". Which is pretty good. But these one hole groups I see that people posting where 10 rds goes into less than an inch at 300m...I couldn't reproduce.
However my brass was new and I did nothing to it before loading it. I'm hoping things get smaller when I give the brass a good working over. Anyone had that experience at all?

How have you guys found the Dtacs in comparison to the Berger Vlds?

I had much better results with the bergers over the dtacs.
The dtacs I used however were the older hallow nose ones and as well I'm sure if I tested the seating depth more I could have had better results.

Check out my sig link to see the Berger group.

Were you using the vlds or the bt Target in the 115s that you shot that group with? I've got 20 of the vlds bombed up to see how they shoot. I'm heading out to my spot to see how things are at longer range. Hopefully its not pouring!

Damn! The things I would do for a shooting place like that here on the Island....

Are there no clear cuts out there? Generally if you can find clear cuts in hilly terrain you can find great shooting spots. Here is one near me:

One road in/out and a giant hill as a backstop. Only problem is it's 1000 yards or bust. No real option for shooting short range.
