This is the area I have put LEH draw in for spring 2015 grizzly hunt. If I get the draw, I will bring my zastava 9.3x62 and my partner will have a 12 gauge semi auto with 00 buck shots

http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/10/12/man-mauled-by-b-c-grizzly-bear-and-shot-by-hunting-partner-trying-to-rescue-him/

A 56-year-old man is recovering in a Calgary hospital after getting mauled by a grizzly bear while hunting Sunday morning near the southern B.C. town of Fernie.

A spokesman for STARS air ambulance says a crew responded to an emergency call just before 9:30 a.m.

David Fairbanks says the man was not only attacked, but also shot by his hunting partner who was trying to neutralize the animal.

B.C.’s environment ministry says the hunting partner managed to kill the bear and was not injured in the incident.

Conservation officers and other first responders rushed to the scene. The victim was driven out of the forested area on an ATV, then flown by helicopter to a Calgary hospital.

The man was in stable condition when he was flown from the area and his injuries are described as non life-threatening.

What's a good friend if you can't shoot one another, eh?

On a serious note, I'm glad that the hunter is going to make it. Too bad we can't carry our handguns while hunting....but that song has been sung many times.

If I was laying underneath a grizzly bear while it was chewing me and my hunting partner was there trying to find a "safe" shot I would be BEGGING him to take the shot....no matter the consequences. I sure as heck would rather be dead quickly from a bullet than living the 3 minutes it takes for a grizzly bear to kill me.

But then...that's just my opinion.

Live or die...take the shot...cause after me he's comin' after YOU!

Whaaaat!!!!!? HOW can a person be attacked by an animal that is extinct in Alberta?!!!!!!!!

It must have been a Sasquatch, because they are not as endangered as the Grizzlies

I hope the hunter recovers from his ordeal!

And obviously that wouldnt have worked either.
The first guy didnt get a shot off or the bear wouldnt had the chance to maul him had that been true.
As for Extinct in Alberia, this happened in BC...
As Ardent said, ''the one who was shot has a good story''.

I'm thinking it's gotta be getting pretty tough to keep up the facade that they're endangered here. Hearing about guys who've been hunting in the foothills it sounds like they've been seeing multiple's every single day. I Do know about 6 yrs ago took son out to 402/305 for a spring spot/stalk bear hunt, couldn't find a black, no trouble finding grizzly's.
Also hear the Swan Hills population is being increased regularly with problem bears from the banff area, don't know if that's true or not. No idea what the pop's like in SE BC.

According to the article I read, the bear was deterred by bear spray from the first guy and then went after the second. Gary Shelton will be piping in on this one. ;)

Grizz

You go into the bear's home (the woods) and people are wondering why hunters get hurt. If a bear came in your home, you'd do all you could to kill it. Two way street

Lol this guy again. Do you think the hunter should be charged for trespassing on the bears property bahahaha

Troll? Second post I've read from you insinuating it was the others fault. Or maybe you are a just a lieberal, then it all makes sense.

This happened in BC, he's only being treated in Calgary. In fairness, I've done a good deal of helicopter flying in Grizzly regions of Alberta, and they aren't doing well, especially compared to BC. Compared to historical populations, Grizzlies are doing quite poorly in Alberta, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Actually you've got a point, I work in Grizzly habitat, have had them sit and watch me work from fifty yards. Also been bluff charged by an angry sow once, of which I have a cell phone pic from the moment it turned and came. Been fortunate to have been drawn twice for the Grizzly hunt, as well, in areas they are doing exceedingly well. This said, I feel for the bears in areas they aren't doing well, and of course there are going to be attacks in the bush. The bush wouldn't be a very wild place with tame and docile apex predators, and that would be a sad day. #### happens in the wild, including bear attacks, a coworker was hospitalised this year by a black bear attack. Just part of life when you're out there, a lot of people only go out a couple weeks a year and forget that Canada is still wild. I'm actually a little surprised by the frenzy here and in the media every time somebody is attacked.

I'm pretty sure Greenpeace and Friends of the Animals have their own websites, perhaps you should be posting your drivel there.

I do not go out and look for bear dens and crawl in, so to speak, at which case I would most assuredly expect retaliation if Mr. Bear were home. However I do share my yard and pasture with a black sow and 2 cubs, several elk, and some whitetails, and all are welcome if they mind their Ps and Qs............your analogy is ridiculous and infantile in its simplicity........no one deserves to be chewed up by a grizzly, I don't care who's home they're in. If one were hunting grizzly and wounded one and was chewed on during the follow up well that is a whole different scenario...........may the best man/bear win, sorta thing........
Me thinks thou should retire back beneath yon bridge from whence ye came !!!!!
