Another heavy hitter enters the world...

Oh marrone - 11 lbs without a scope or belly full of ammo! A few criticisms of the blueprint, not the 'smith... The barrel is too long, the rifle too heavy and the trigger too light.

Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of performance it gives and groups it produces.

Apparently not for the owner 'cause that is what he wanted in a custom gun.

So, too heavy, long and light for what then ?

Thats a beauty!
.375 H & H Magnum Shilen 26 inch barrel on a trued 700. One inch muzzle - 11 pounds in a Sendero stock, glassed and floated trigger 2.5 pounds.

Easy on recoil with lots of smack at the other end.

I've been thinking about the weight of this fine rifle all day, and I seriously think my old '64 vintage Browning Safari 375 is darned close to the same and the barrel is only 24" on it. The old Browning wears a 2x7 or a 1.5x5 alternately, neither being heavy scopes.
I must say that over 40 yrs. ago that the weight was not a consideration, but nowadays when I'm half-way up a hill it sure as hell is.
Growing old is not fun !!
Nevertheless, I'd sure like to park that nice Remington in my gun safe....;)

Nice looking gun. It should ride bags alright for load workup, and at that weight wont kick too hard.

Kevan I recall the 375 I bought off you must have been in the 9-10 lbs range?

Once i am wiser in years :) I will have another 375 H&H in the ole gun safe for sure! :D

Amphibo referred to it as a varmint. I have a new sendero in 7mm rem mag with a nightforce and I plan to pot shot gophers with it but Ive never heard it called a varmint gun. You can see mine in this pic.

Hi mackiilan, where ya been?? Senderos are a big game rifle with an HS stock and yes they are heavy but it is a good stock choice for this cannon IMO

Maybe mackillin should start another 7mm thread on the suitability as a gopher cartridge:dancingbanana:

Can't believe i sais that but I have only had one cup of coffee
Sorry for the hijack;)

Back to the topic at hand...what's the intended use of the rifle? I'm still having difficuty with the blueprint, not that it really matters..

I suppose if someone wanted it lighter down the road the bbl could be cut back to 21" and some big/wide flutes cut in the bbl.

How much do you think that would take off?

About 5 inches :D

It'd still be too heavy and balance like a pickaxe. The barrel would need a trip back to the lathe for a new contour to remedy that problem. Then it would need irons too and yet more smithing.

the joys of a custom. you get what you want. i too would'nt own a 11 lb 375 but i bet its a lot more comfortable than my 8lb 6oz 375.
