Another what if question.........

I have seen both whitetail and 300 lb black bear drop dead with a 22LR. I have also seen moose drop instantly with a 410, 357, and a 22 mag. Not that any of it should be ever considered for game of that size, and I am NOT endorsing any of it!

The 270 wsm is the only short mag to offer a performance increase over the cartridge it was designed after, fwiw i have hunted with a 270 wsm and there is no animal in north america i wouldn't hunt with it.

To be honest, this is the kind of response I was looking for.

Ive helped dig .224" cal 55 grain SPs out of Bull and calf Moose if that helps Cleft's argument. And seen lots of old polaroids of dead Blackies with a .22-250 Tikka and Winchester laying beside them from an old friend of mine.

but a moose drop dead instantly with a 410? Archie!!! A 409 with 3 duces, yeah I could see that, but a 410, no Sir-e! I just can't believe that! Yes, I've heard stories of moose droping to a 22-250. Only bad boys do that kind of thing!

.410 slugs are very very deadly! I have shot 6 Bears with one myself... all less than 50 yards mind you, but look up the ballistics of 410 slug ammo.

Back in New Foundland, my brother in law's father apparently is a well know retired poacher. Used a .22 rimfire all the time to get his moose. Stalk close, plug it in the lungs and wait. The moose doesn't seem to know anything. Keels over after it bleeds to death.

Brother in law claims it twue...............
