Ok, so I am really having a struggle with this....

I already have lots of guns, but there is an empty space in my collection. After more than 25 years of restricted ownership, I still don't have a 1911. I have had a CZ 97B for a couple of years and it is a wonderful pistol. With 10 round capacity in 45ACP, why would I need a 1911?

I suppose I could look at some of the 9mm 1911's to have 10 round capacity, but I also already have a CZ 75 Shadowline, so I kinda have that covered as well. Also a fantastic pistol BTW.

I have looked hard at the Kimber Stainless target in 9mm. I like the adjustable sights....But then again I am also a purist..........I know that Clint Eastwood never packed a Kimber....And I can't picture John Wayne with anything but a Colt Government Model in any caliber other than 45.

John Wayne never lied, never stole, never backed down, sure as hell never drove a Saturn, and I highly doubt if he were alive today if he would shoot a Glock. Even one chambered in 45.

And then there is Col. Jeff Cooper. Ok so we don't need to talk about 9mm anymore........

I don't shoot IPSC, so I don't need a fancy polished race gun.

I have been a Ruger revolver fan for a long time so the SR 1911 appeals to me but there is no history there... There are no pictures of Bill Ruger Sr holding one.... no reviews from Skeeter Skelton, Elmer Keith, or Bill Jordan that I can rely on for guidance........

I could buy 4 or 5 Norincos for the price of one Colt or Kimber...........but it just wouldn't be the same.

I just can't imagine lying on my death bed and telling my grandson "Kid, go open my gun safe. I want you to have my..........NORINCO". Hell the kid probably wouldn't even bother to come to my funeral.

Thanks, I think I know what to do now......But I welcome your thoughts.

Everyone should own at least one Colt 1911!
After you acquire your Colt no guilt should be felt picking whichever 1911 tickles your fancy...

Colt Gold Cup National Match - the new "series 70" production.

Seriously

I'm that serious

If you don't shoot competitively I'm not sure why mag capacity is even part of the equation. You can get 10 round mags too, but they look silly.

Like I said,, gold cup, and also a milspeck colt government model. Then springfield, then all the other configerations. 9mm, 10mm, 38super, 40sw, 45 acp, then commander length, railed, all of them ... muahahaahahah

breath.......whew.......

Time to opem the safe again.....

I got a 1911 S&W Pro Series this year with Wilson Combat mags. I LOVE that pistol. It is by FAR the best I have for fun, look, accuracy (in my hands).
My 2 cents.

Have a look at the STI Trojan. Classic looking gun with great fit and finish and when they say "highend quality for a midrange price" they mean it. Mine has worked like a top right out of the box for over a year now with no tinkering required.

Colt are overpriced and don't appeal to me. Unless you want to buy a name with the heritage, then go for it. The Gold Cup is the only Colt I would pick you're looking for a $2,000 1911. If you want a great shooter with some practical features wituout breaking the bank, then you have plenty of choice. Sig makes some fine 1911 and they offer a huge selection. Dan Wesson is also very good but more expensive. Smith & Wesson E serie and Springfield Armory, if you can find them.

If you want a 1911 to shoot a few hundred rounds through a week and not worry over it, there's a wide selection to choose from. To obtain a 1911 you can shoot whenever you feel like it, hold it's value or increase in value over the years, fill a void in your collection and make you feel good every time you look at it . . . an original Colt 1911, in the best condition you can find, would be my thoughts.. .

This one I bought some years back, has given me lots of enjoyment, and worth considerably more today than I originally paid. . 1937 Commercial in excellent original condition

Another vote for the sti...it's the only 1911 .45 I've kept...genuinely love it...and I will buy another maybe a 'tactical 5.0'

Colts are over rated. Probably had at least a dozen Colt 1911s from a WW2 mfr to Gov't models, golf cups and combat elites in blue and stainless. Also had a couple of Remington (typewriter company) WW2 mfr that I had custom built into Pin guns.

None of them shot as well or as reliably, in stock condition, as my older 2011 and earlier Norks.
Newer norks needed some break in shots to work reliably. Newer norks are roughly finished compared to pre 2011 units.

I was a brand snob till I shot my first Norkie. My norks all shot accurately enough just get an older series if finish matters. Triggers improve with shooting. Wolff springs all around can help but not a necessity. No problem with fit in about 10 that have passed through my hands. I still have 4 including one tuned and customed by RogerKotanko.

Among the American made 1911s, I will go with the ruger sr1911. It has everything you need, nothing that you don't.

Sold all my colts.

I was able to pick up a Sig 1911 and I do like it a lot, but the profile that they did with the square top slide (to make it look more "Sig-gie" I guess) does not fit generic 1911 holsters or other equipment every time.

I would vote for any 1911 really, as it is more of a name or quality issue than a platform issue (generally).

I will second the STI Trojan. The quality/fit and finish is very close to custom guns costing 2-3 times more.

If you want to follow in the footsteps of the truly great - John Wayne, Jeff Cooper and Tom Selleck get a basic model Springfield or Colt and add Coopers necessities - a grip that suits you, sights you can see, and a trigger that is useable.

This has been a tough one. It seems like it should be easy picking a 1911 but with so many people making them, so many calibers, stainless? blued? black? olive drab? chrome? nickel? zebra?parkerized? Rosewood grips? walnut? plastic? aluminum? Coco bolo? himalayan sandalwood? Pussy willow? ivory? Lightweight? Government? Commander? Fixed sight? adjustable? left handed? right handed? ambi? extended?..........................It never ends.
Finally my wife intervened. With my head still spinning from all the possibilities, she thought I should hit "add to cart" on this one:

Hey happy wife happy life right?

These two were born 84 years apart.

The workmanship on both is incredible and I am sure that John Wayne or Humphrey Bogart would not be embarrassed to pack either one to go with a tuxedo.
