Another Which 1911? Thread

My Buddy loves his 1911's….me…not enough to own one. However, out of his collection the favourite one I've shot is his Les Baer 1911 Monolith Commanche.

Get a Colt, you won't regret it. I resisted for a long time, but after I bought a used 1911 Combat Elite (pre-enhanced), I was sold on Colt 1911.
 
The new Colts are nice. The basic government models, less so - desperate need for trigger work with them, though tweaking the sear spring to shave off a pound or so can make them acceptable.

The higher end SKUs are something else.

I do kind of miss my SR1911. It was a very nice pistol. I don't think it's $1000 nice, though. I got mine when they were still around $700. I still see the commanders listed cheaper, though.

I own two. I've shot lots of 1911's, and I always enjoy the feel of my sams better. Better than colts, remingtons, sigs, sti's, a little more than kimbers, but not as much as baers. My sam's have required no tinkering, go bang every time, feel like custom fitted guns (because they are). My only complaint so far is the rail size on the thunderbolt.

I don't buy for the name. I got my first SAM because it was cheap, and I wanted to give it a try. Couldn't help but pony up a little extra cash for another.
 
I own 1 SAM, not impressed. Don't even keep it in the same safe as my other 1911s.

if all you do is plinking, i guess it would be fine.

the reason they are handfitted, is becuse all the parts are different sizes on the same model. They require it to work. Almost every aftermarket part needs to be handfitted to fit. Even as simple as a MSH.

I wouldn't buy another.

The same can be said for any custom fit gun. A G.I. Rattle trap 1911 will fit most parts except barrel and be plenty reliable. I like the feel of the hand fitted 1911's. Hand fitting is not the mark of poorly made gun. Most high end 1911's won't take parts without hand fitting.
