Anschutz 1827F from Nordic Marksman- Thank You!

I am awaiting some RWS R50 but when I shot the FGMM I had at 25m, it went into one ragged hole when I proned out. I too think I have an Annie addiction. I am awaiting arrival of a 1417 from a fellow CGNer and am trying to decide on a scope for that.

Thanks for the info on the mount. It will be either the AI or one from BKL Tech for the 1417.

I was 10min behind you on that deal! :( Wish I had been faster! Lol Post pics when you get your scope mount and a range report on the 1417! :D

First Range Day with the 1827F.

I like it! Super smooth, fast action that is very light. Can pull back with one finger and reset with my thumb without loosing the sight picture. A very nice bit of engineering! Can shoot very well too even on a foggy, cold day. I had more trouble than the rifle as fingers were not doing as they should! Anyhow pics of the day to keep it interesting!

Cheers,

I need some Lapua Center X to try now (and a warmer day)

:D

Wow, very nice looking stock! I too just picked up one of these from Brad and concur, Nordic Marksman is great to deal with. Although I'm using the 6827 rear sight, I like the look of the scope. Where did you get the scope base from?

Will shoot better when I am not wearing heavy fleece gloves and three sweaters/neck tube due to the cold. Still need a proper buttplate on this as well to get a good fit (LOP). I am expecting way better yet after a few trips! :D

Seems like a strange stock design for the intended uses. How does it shoulder freehand? I commend you for taking that beautiful wood on a canoe trip. I don't think I'd have the nards to do it. Very nice rifle.

I have a padded Vodoo Rifle Bag and a Mil Spec diving dry bag ( http://www.dui-online.com/products/waterproof-weapons-dry-bags/ ) that the Vodoo will fit in and then I can fully inflate the dry bag for extra protection against bumps etc. It will be protected regardless of use :D The stock is designed to shoot prone and standing- Have a look at the biathlon race videos on YouTube

Over 9 pound rifle for a camping gun/snowshoeing gun? not my cup of tea! Probably closer to 10 actually with the scope and mount. Cant argue with the groups, but would a more sleek less cumbersome rifle not be better suited to all around duties? Im sure the non-biathalon anschutz rifles are still capable of incredible accuracy? are they not?

Still one of my favorite videos on Youtube!
Watch JP shoot clean in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics. JP is right at the start of the video!

Watch how they throw these rifles around...

One last video...watch the epic shooting in the wind! This is the Female Biathlon World Cup race in Ă–stersund Sweden December 2013
They shoot at 50m, the target diameter is 45 millimetres (1.8 in)

A lot of that really depends on the ammo used for cold weather. The 1827 is tested for group size both at +20 and -20. Has to meet a min standard before being sold.

A photo of the cold test chamber at Anschutz below. Every 1827 is subjected to this before being proof tested...

Yeah if he was shooting polar biathlon, I wouldn't have mentioned it....and I'd be willing to bet the groups would have been even tighter. It does cost about 6x as much as cci subsonic. Although if you are shooting that rifle, you're probably not too concerned.

It's all about the Fortner action, check out my EE adds if you want the regular stuff (my Carbon Fiber 22lr bolt gun was cool for a light bush gun) :)

Impressive groups!

She sure looks at home in the snow.

It is indead at home in the snow :D Just need to get better gloves to do the proper target shooting!

Will have better ammo soon! This was just my regular stuff till then. I think I will always be the weak link in the cold when shooting ;) Still worked very nice for a days shooting with heavy gloves and a cold shooter!

Thats the great part of this system, you know its a proven design! No doubt's of the rifle being able to shoot! Just have to match the ammo to the use. Thanks for the great video links too, some crazy skills shown there and that wind would have sucked!!! I hate days like that!

Please keep in mind this was my first day out with the rifle. Cold conditions wearing heavy gloves etc. The rifle will do way better than what is shown so far. I will update again as the range days continue! Hope to get some real ammo soon too! I'll expect much better groups!!! :D

Thanks for posting those videos. Can't imagine how hard that is to transition from a pulse rate of 160+/min and hyperventilating from the skiing and then get everything calmed down for some very difficult shooting.

Always wanted an Anshutz biathalon rifle just for that action alone!

I took the 1827F out today to see what I could do with it at 50m, along with some RWS ammo. Unfortunately, I don't know how to post pictures and I didn't bring my calipers, but I can tell you there is a significant difference when shooting the RWS over even the FGMM.

I started out shooting the CCI Standard Velocity to get the groups close to centre since I had only shot the rifle at 25m previously. The groups were about 1.5"-2" on average with the odd flier that I figured was more due to my inexperience with the aperture sight. Switching to FGMM tightened things up to about 3/4"-1", and the POI didn't shift.

I then tried some RWS R50 and R100. Wow! What a noticeable difference. When I walked back from checking the targets, I actually felt like I knew what I was doing. I could net tell any difference in the group sizes between the R50 and R100 at the 50m mark so I plan to try things at 100m and see what happens. (I'll bring calipers and try and figure out the photo thing).

I would have stayed all day shooting, but I was getting cold and my finger was starting to get chewed up a little from the knurling on the bolt handle.

I should add that I was shooting prone and it was +1C outside with negligible wind.

Interesting! Just for fun, here is a photo of ammunition at Anschutz used to perform testing on barreled actions for accuracy. Quite a variety!

And a couple of the range and the gentlemen who get to do all the testing! What a job!!!

I wish I had taken more photos!
