I've been wondering (when I ought to have been crunching numbers at my desk): given that a zombie's head's pretty much decomposed, would it make good fodder for a .17 rimfire? Or a Quickshok .22 LR?

You can tell summer's a slow time of year for this accountant.;)

Just idle speculation on my part...12 guage is still probably still best. But the thought of all our mighty 10/22's and Rem 597's with 25 and 30-round mags...headshots on plenty of slow-moving targets...:D:D:D

I'd say .22lr, just for the availabilty of ammo. If the zompocalypse happened today, and all the ammo plants stopped, there'd still be years worth of 22lr, and it'd be found in every country on the planet. I am in need of more magazines though, I only have 60 shots before I'd need to start reloading again.

last time I theoretized about zombies ( when to expect them attacking and where vitals and whatnot) I was nearly banned and thread was locked right quick.

I though if we are talking undead squirrels or zombie grounhogs 22 would do nicely.

For real thing that will eventually come I thing everybody needs slow and heavy projectiles like 45 ACP with hollow points that would blow things apart or 12g buckshot. And it must be semiautomatic with 30-round magazines and stuff.

All I know is when the invasion happens, I'm using everything I've got. .17hrm, .22lr, .22wmr, 30-06, .223, everything. Don't care if it kills them or not. Just injures them enough to become imobile.

Since zombies are slow and unco-ordinated I belive that either a chainsaw if you have plenty of gas or a sharp, forged steel, high quality sword designed for cutting (eg a katana or a scimitar) would be best for severing their arms and legs at the torso.

Kinda like the Black Knight in the Holy Grail. :)

That way they can wriggle all they want and still not disturb your post-apocalyptic world.

Just make sure you wear something like this, because one drop of zombie slime in the wrong place is all it takes to make you one of the shuffling horde.;)

From what I've seen in the movies, it takes a head shot from a 12ga to put them down permanently. I think rimfire whould just annoy them. The head has to explode to be effective (and more fun too!). I've got my Grizzly 870 but I need to stock up on some 00 buckshot and some slugs.

To kill the zombie you only have to scramble the brains, you don't have to send them flying. Therefore the .22 round is a good choice, it enters, but doesn't exit, but it moves around long enough to scramble the eggs.

my favorite zombie movie is the I AM LEGEND starring will smith and those zombies in the movie are not slow .

When it comes to zombies I rely on George A Romero. Therefor slow not fast zombies.

A single .22lr may not be enough. But our 10/22s can have 25rds+ of .22lr at the ready. So a couple extra shots to make sure won't hurt anything.

I'd like to have a .22 pistol as described in World War Z that was issue for pilots. All there is and has ever been is large five or at the most ten shot .22's. Aesthetics are unimportant. I want a small utilitarian but large magazine capacity .22LR. No-one makes them. No-one.

Since zombies are slow and unco-ordinated

That's the traditional assumption...;)

So we are assuming the zombies will be slow then....hmmmm

Lately Hollywood seems to be going in a different direction

Yes, but fast zombies (Dawn of the Dead remake, ahem:rolleyes:) are notoriously "non-canon"...

But are they even zombies?

Good comment! :D

Except they're not zombies...

Vampires man, they really suck. :D

Mind you, just what were the baddies in The Omega Man? And yes, vampires do suck! :p

Oh really??? ;)

Hehe...
