Cigar Man, that's too good for you - you should sell it to me;)! Here are some pics of a couple of antiques I've got currently.
The first one is a circa 1830's .45 heavy barrel longrifle. Weighs 12.5 lbs! The barrel is almost 36" long, and 1 3/16" at the breech. It's in nice shooting shape, purchased on Nutz. The second is a circa 1850's market shotgun, 10 bore. Made in Birmingham, though the maker's name is illegible. Just shy of 46" barrel, very nice bore, ready to shoot - waiting for a custom ball mould. Also purchased on Nutz, supposed to be 6 bore, oh well.

Gabrielguitars:
I have an original longrifle from the same period that bears several uncanny similarities to the one you showed. The 2-pc patch boxes (unusual) are virtually identical with the release button in the toeplate. Hard to tell from the photos but I think yours also has a brass trigger and trigger plate as well as checkering on the grip section. Both our guns are percussion - mine has a 1" X 40" barrel in 45 cal. with the name "C. Waggon" stamped in 1/8" letters across the top flat over the breech. Any name on your gun? The comb lines on the butt are slightly different but the forends are similar and lacking barrel key escutcheons. It might be mutually informative to see the guns side by side sometime. I will try to get some of my photos up on here in the next few days.

Flinter, the wrist on mine has no checkering at all, or any evidence of it. The trigger and trigger plate are indeed brass. The name on the top of the barrel is "M. Gilbert Rochester." I certainly would be interested to see pics of yours to compare. I am going to the range tomorrow (barring bad weather) to see what she can do. Report to follow.
