Any 9.3mm (.366) hunters out there?

Funny you should say they "are all mine..." Just got off a side junket online, sourcing .358/375 reamer/dies... after I wrote the post above, I remembered that I not only have the rifle, but also a second Stainless M77 MKII barrel in .350 RM... simple neck down on the brass and rechamber and I am good to go. I had little interest in the Ruger case as a .375, but as a .358, I am stoked... a quirk, I recognize, but we gun nutters are a squirrelly bunch!

I agree with you take on putting builds to practical field use... I never feel that their existence is justified until they have put down an animal... I only have three that have not been put to use as yet, but hopefully 2020 will rectify that.

Look up .358 Nukalpiaq. There’s a guy on the Alaska forum who built one.

I had read all of that saga in the past... they messed around for a long time on the design and reamer blueprints but I never saw data from an actually rifle... not sure the project ever got finished. I have an email in to Dave Kiff to see if they ever built the reamer and what his specs are... sent an email off the Whidden aswell to see if they have done dies. Everything else is laid out on the shop table... no rush on this one as I have two other projects already in progress... I also still have not checked if the .350 RM barrel has enough chamber meat for the .358-.375 case.

No, but there is a long chamber swell on the short action magnums, I will have to measure the barrel to see how much metal is there.

I’m confused? Do you want to yank the .350 RM barrel, rechamber it to .35-375 Ruger and rescrew it on a long action MKII? Or are going to try to fit a .35-375 Ruger in a short action?

The barrel is a take-off from my 6.5 Rem Mag build, it was originally is from an M77-R MKII 22" .350 Rem Mag. I will be screwing the rechambered take off barrel into a long action... again, this is all pending whether or not I can get a .375 R case into this barrels chamber swell... and to honest, I am not hopeful, even though the SA Mag barrel's swell is beefier and longer than the standard short action barrels.

Yeah... so this is happening. Plenty of meat for the 358/375 Ruger chamber on this barrel. Mocked up a 358/375 round and have the reamer specs;

Three or more decades back, when I hunted the B.C. coast, for one season I used an old open sighted Husqvarna in 9.3x57. It came with several boxes of Norma factory Moose ammo (...can't remember the bullet weight, heavy though, probably around 280 gr.), so that was what I used. With it I shot a few Blacktail bucks and one Black Bear. Then I sold it because it wasn't D+T for a scope, and also the LOP was way too long for me. It was in excellent condition and I didn't want to drill it or cut down the stock. But the Norma Moose ammo worked fine on relatively lightweight game. One nice big clean hole through both sides. Very little meat damage.

Cool! I almost pulled the Bevan King .35 Whelen barrel of my MKII and have it rechambered in .358 Norma Mag a few years ago but then I got my .375 Ruger so that scratched that itch.

Good enough reason, right there.

Another good reason is a 225 Accubond at 3100+ fps... pretty useful niche... not much you can't do in Canada with just shy of 5000 ft/lb... there are plenty of ways to get there, but this is an interesting one... there are a number of scenarios where I will carry thia rifle.

The PTG .358/375 Ruger reamer and Redding .358/375 Ruger dies are on the way. Should have this one up and running in a couple to three months, just in time for the spring fling at the range, and zeroed in time to nail a BBQ bear in May.

Sounds great!
You used to be able to buy 375 Ruger basic brass. It had no caliber on the headstamp. Made for wildcatting.

I have both the 9.3-375 and the 375 Ruger. I doubt the 9.3 will take a 375 Ruger loaded round. But if it did, I'd hate to find out what would happen squeezing the .375 tsx down a 9.3 bore...

Yeah, that would spike pressure a tad... but I have heard of similar bore disparities result in surprisingly little damage... not going to attempt it personally though. Pretty sure the .375 would not chamber in the .358, but I will not own a .375 R, so no fear of that... should be a screamer with the 225 Accubond... I know what rock I will be sitting on when it gets its first use in the field... in my favourite bear cut.
