As a young guy, I always wanted a 35 Whalen. I bought a new Remington Classic in 35 Whalen back when they came out with that caliber in the series and thought I had found my lifetime medium bore. And, it is a wonderful rifle and round. It kills'em dead without much meat damage.

All changed when I discovered the 9,3X62 about ten years ago, however. I was lucky to have blundered into a used, but not abused Husqvarna 649 in 9,3X62 with a QD sidemount for 1" scopes and open sights. I jumped all over it, as I am partial to almost any 98 Mauser variation (the 649 used an FN large ring action). With a newly installed Timney trigger, this gun shoots ragged holes, and with AUTHORITY!

I'd like to see the Ruger Hawkeye in 9,3X62, but won't hold my breath.:(

Love the 9.3x62! Here's my Tikka T3 Lite in that caliber.

The Tikkas and CZ 550s in 9,3 seem to be good sellers. I can't see why Ruger doesn't chamber it in the Hawkeye, can you...???

If not for the Husqvarna I already have, I'd get a CZ 550 FS in 9,3X62:cool: .

I like the .366 so much that I have their long brothers, the 9,3X74R, in a couple of guns. Within its range capabilities, the 9,3X62 is a killing machine. Isn't it amazing how those guys back 100+ years ago could come up with a round as durable and flexible as the 9,3X62?!?!:p

I love the 9.3X62 as well. I am going to screw a Heym barrel onto a certain large ring FN action. Blackburn bottom metal and trigger, Gentry safety, and some type of synthetic stock. Should be a dandy. I also have an excellent Husqvarna 649 built on an FN C-Ring action in 9.3X62. The gun is in very good shape and quite rare. There weren't many C-Ring actions built that weren't military 98s. This one has the hump but no thumb cutout. The stripper clip slot is square cut as well instead of "T" shaped like normal. This is a transition model made in 1949. This caliber in my opinion is the ultimate all round North American gun. With 5 rounds in the magazine and 286 Partitions at 2500 fps it is a devastating rifle. Too bad they aren't a little more popular but in the States they seem to be gathering quite a following.

I have a .35 Whelen on a FN action and Douglas barrel that was my favorite for years. Last year, I had a 9.3X62 built and it is quickly becoming amy favorite.

It's in a Brazilian M1908(Oberdorf contract) action with a 24 3/4" King barrel, Dayton-Traister trigger, 1" Pachmeyr Decellerator, M70-style 2 pos safety and a Black Walnut stock that I carved from a blank.

Logically, there is little, if any, difference between the Whelen and the 9.3. But with the 9.3 I can shoot the heavier bullets that I have come to prefer. A 286 gr bullet at 2450-2500 fps suits me just fine.

have a tikkka 412s double- O/U - in 9.3x74r
have yet to play with it but should be fun when I do
problem here is no bullets for it - hav eot get the mto order me in some
any recomenadtions on which to get?

286gr Noslers are the best all around bullet you can get for the 9,3X74R, IMO. North Forks are good, but expensive and hard to come by. Swift A-Frames are OK, but only come in 250gr and 300gr. Norma 285gr Oryx are just OK and expensive. Woodleighs are way overrated.

Get a supply of 286 Noslers, and you are well set.

9.3

264, I also have one of those 9.3x62 husky c rings you mention. Exactly like you describe. Interesting!! Love the caliber Also have one (96 action) in 9.3x57 as well.

I have a 1952 Model 70 rebored from 30-06 to 9.3x62 by Jim Dubell. In a McMillan Edge stock and 1.5-5 Leupold it is 7-1/2 pounds loaded and slung.

Anyone who says a 9.3x62 kicks like a 30-06 ought to run a couple magaines of 286 Noslers through this thing, but its sure nice to carry

YES!! I built mine on a 98 ,1908 brazilian act. with a 19" heym barrel I got on ebay. It is in a Charles Daly syn stock, timney trigger side safetyand it shoots great! LOUD but great! In fact its VERY LOUD!! Recoil is not bad but noticeable, I love it !!!!JITC

How do you like the 96 action 9,3X57? I almost bought one, but wanted to see one first...shoot one. They were inexpensive about two years ago, but have gone way up in price.

I acually realy like the 57 It is a pussycat to shoot and with respectable velocites and a very nice express style stock that comes up ( like a fine shotgun)!! I havent shot any game yet but relitives in sweden have used them lots. I have a 2.5 weaver with warne rings on mine.
