Any advice since "AK variants" are banned?

Hello, I have recently just acquired my PAL. I have been shooting for a while with friends and family so I'm not a total newbie to firearms, however I'd say I'm mostly only familiar with the basics.

Now that I have a PAL I'm looking to start collecting my own firearms. I am a huge fan of Russian, Soviet and Eastern Bloc firearms like the Mosin Nagant and the SKS. But one of my all-time favourite guns is the SVD Dragunov. Because the Liberals have decided that just because this gun looks like a big bad scary AK, it should for some reason be prohibited. Though mechanically I wouldn't say there's a huge difference between the SKS and SVD. It's just moronic that these firearms and many more cool semi-auto centrefire rifles are banned, but at this point I'm just preaching to the choir LOL.

Anyway, I've spent a fair amount of time trying to find alternatives to the SVD, but I haven't come up with much. Firearms like the Type 81 SR, SVTs, or the Berkut 2M1, etc., etc., etc., are all either prohibited, insanely hard to find, or way too expensive.

My question is this: Would anybody here have any good ideas for alternatives to the SVD Dragunov or know of any way to modify an SKS to resemble/operate like an SVD? Like, would it be possible for an SKS to eject from the side, or could I even manage to get an SKS with a metal action block and then just get the SVD stock and heat shield grip?

Sorry if this is a naive post, but thank you for taking the time to read this.

Emigration.

I would be reluctant to purchase anything along those lines ,if its not prohibited now it could be in the near future
treaty violation if the liberals try it, valmets are immune to bans :)

Aesthetically cool but not practical. Cautionary tale for those who choose to use an AK Mastermount, it needs hand fitting and you are still looking at a 4-6 MOA gun. Plus with the optic the gun weighs 12-13 LBS.
Nice is the scope offset and eye relief manageable in that configuration?

Not really noticeable especially with the eye cup installed. I have taken it out to 400m and am able to ring standard IPSC-sized steel with minimal problems using ####ty bulk 147gr 7.62.

Surprising that nobody is buying up all the cheap Valmet Petra rifles in Europe and importing them here and making a huge profit, after all the Petra is the Finnish named same version of the Valmet Hunter that was supplied to the natives here and is not restricted.

They sell for only about 500 or 600 Euro's over in Europe.

it’s gotta be stamped with hunter or m78, pure evil otherwise

What treaty would that be?

Do you mean to say it would be a Sec. 35 of The Constitution Act violation because Canada allegedly supplied some Native people with Valmets?

If so it would seem to me that saying "Give us your Valmet and we'll give you a bolt action rifle" would get around that very easily.

The end result is totally subjective...... but you can mod an SKS into something that provides pretty good SVD vibes.

An SKS dropped into a Choate, ATI or Luckyshot SVD stock. Feeding from duckbilless Tapco mags and equipped with a Molot styled SVD rail and optic fits the role quite well.

I wasnt going for a SVD clone when building up my main shooter SKS, id describe it as SVD themed haha, and mostly went custom. Its a very comfortable plinker, Ive shot out to 900 yards with it. Inside 650 yards its surprisingly effective at engaging 4moa sized targets.

Here's it in action on a very windy day, furthest shots was around 350yards if it recall correctly.
