Hi folks ...my question is.... is there anybody out there that shoot's out too a 1000 meters with this caliber, and if so ...can some one guide me in the right direction with bullet weights... powders and all the jazz that goes with it ......thanks

I don't shoot to 1000m or anything, but I do reload for a friends 30-378 and the favourite load has been a 180gr barnes TSX and 122gr H50BMG

I shed a small tear for the animal that gets hit with this combo

When I spent some time in Australia back in 1998 I worked for a fella that had one. He reloaded it with coated bullets, which may have been moly, but it was the first I had heard of coating bullets. He claimed the coated bullets allowed him to push 180 gr bullets over 3600 fps. I can't say if it was true or not but they were very hot loads he was shooting, I do remember distinctly that he had to hit the bolt, with the palm of his hand (sometimes more than once) to open it, probably ruined a good Weatherby action. I wish I had been smart enough to look at the primers on spent cartridges but alas I was less gun savy back then. He carried it round in his Land Cruiser shooting it at random kangaroos and emu, it made a heck of a mess when hitting an emu at 150 yards.

He was a crazy bastard, who bilked me out of 3 months wages. I have since forgiven him for that but I am really pissed that he never took me feral pig hunting like he promised.

I guess I didn't help with what your post asked but it reminded me of a good story.

I have two sons shooting Sako M995's chambered for the 30-378 Wby. They both used Barnes X and TSX 180 gr. bullets for several years on moose and elk, but recently changed to 165 gr. Nosler Partitions.
They've used H4831 because it was available and worked ok, but are currently using H870 and getting better results...of course. When that runs out (about 2012:D) they'll probably switch to US869. The only recent chrony numbers I have is 3450+- with 180 gr. practice bullets..whatever they were.
I have their load data, but it won't mean anything for a different rifle, so just read the data and start lowish.:)
