Dude (or 'mam... sorry if I assume your gender)
- I couldn't care less if you are in a wheelchair or not... I just thought it was a piece of information that might be important to know... Just like any physical limitation relating to physical shape and age. In this next of the wood, when I go after hares (and birds) it's usually on mountain side... not exactly somewhere I'd take my father (who's getting old) or anyone not in excellent physical shape. Too many chances or tripping and falling... and having to extract someone out of the wood is not my definition of fun.
- I'd recommend some logging roads or more easily accessible area.

The same thing could be said about going to shoot competition.
- A shooting buddy is confined to a wheelchair, if/when he's interested in shooting a match I probably won't recommend a range where we'd have to carry him up 3 flight of stairs (when there are other venu more easily accessible)

I (and most folks on CGN) couldn't care less about your physical condition or limitation. But your physical condition or limitation will have a impact on the recommendations you will receive.
- If we'd be face to face, some "constraint" (or whatever the politically correct term is) would be more obvious and the question more precise. Looking at your avatar, we've got not no way of knowing or your limitations.

We've taken paraplegic out rowing... but we sure as hell didn't send them out on the water a competition scull.
We've taken blind individual biking... but we didn't send them alone on a bike down mainstreet

Agreed. Two friends setup a sailing program at Trenton for wheelchair bound individuals and it was a resounding success. One day a reporter came along and wanted to talk to the participants and was shown 2 wheelchairs sitting empty at the end of the dock and was told to wait for them to come in after sailing. He posted the pic of the empty wheelchairs on the dock in his documentary and it really highlighted the story.

Locally here is a wheelchair bound guy that has his aircraft modified for hand controls only and gives Transport Canada approved flying lessons for new students. A very successful operation now.

What would you have us ask then? Seems like a respectful question to me? I guess it would sound nicer if I asked "is that permanently attached to your ass? You call us disrespectful and want respect, earn it! It's not given out freely just because you are physically challenged. I hear people with disabilities saying all the time they don't want special treatment yet as soon as it suits their purpose, example not getting a warm reception for a place to hunt out comes the trump card, "I'm in a wheelchair". Got news for you, it's not a trump card in my world. Funny it wasn't mentioned until about 40-50 posts in? I'm a trapshooter too and I've shot with many physically challenged shooters over the years. Some were nice folks, some were not but I always treated them the way I would anyone else, no sugar coating. I treat everyone equally. As for the trader rating I use it for it's intended purpose for the most part, purchasing, selling and trading but if a person has a poor trader rating it usually is a good indicator of a persons moral compass. As for ####### I don't go near it, I see lots on there who are nefarious for lousy ratings here with good ratings on there including a few members who lost EE privilidges here!

Do not say: “Wheelchair bound” or describe someone as “confined to a wheelchair”. Instead say: “Wheelchair user or “person who uses a wheelchair”. Remember that a wheelchair represents freedom to its user. Or literally just ask: "Can you walk?"...

Seems like a no-brainer, I don't get why you need any further information anyways when I literally said "I'm recently paralyzed due to a mountain biking jump gone wrong so it's a bit harder for me to "put boots on the ground and knock on doors". I mean what other information do you need? I literally said I'm f0cking paralyzed. Dumba$$ people need to return to primary school and learn how to read.

Never asked for special treatment, just corrected someone's language. Obviously, I realize the wheelchair is a barrier to accessing rugged terrain which is why I brought it up. Don't need people telling me I'm confined to my wheelchair though.

Seems like this user also has his head so far stuck up his a$$ he can't have empathy for others in a minority group who are clearly voicing their disapproval for certain terminology being used. This is exactly what's wrong with this world, and what makes my life so much harder. Hate having to deal with d1ckheads day in day out who think they know better than me.

Literally this is how it's going:

Me: "I'm paralyzed and use a wheelchair"

Some old pr1ck: "yOu'rE CoNfINEd To A whEeLchAir????"

Imagine how that makes me feel.

Hey can you connect me with the guy who has hand controls in his aircraft? I would love to get in touch with him. Feel free to PM me. I used to be big into aviation before my accident a year ago and have been looking for ways to get my PPL.

Actually he kind of reminds me or seems like that fellow on here a number of years back. Young fellow, early 20's if you can believe what he posted that was full of all kinds of questions regarding guns, hunting etc who had a few issues with the EE and eventually too announced he was in a wheelchair. Same MO. He was eventually banned and resurfaced under a different username but it was picked up on fairly quick as his behaviour and style of posting were identical. He disappeared shortly after, cannot recall if he was banned. Been a long time since anyone resembling him has been posting here and now we have almost the same MO again and same province of origin though I think the first two times around he was southeastern Ontario Niagara region if memory serves? Might be the same fellow now a decade or so later. The excuses and behaviour are a darned near perfect match.

wtf are you babbling on about... love how half of this thread is people just ripping on my trader rating or questioning the fact i'm in a wheelchair when I just wanted info on hunting ground near me. i didn't sign up for this.

this forum is really full of old fudds and jacka$$es who think they're top sh1t. toxic af. won't post a thread on this forum again after this experience.

...and here I was thinking my only present this valentines day was going to be a hummer and a box of chocolates...thanks OP!

Thank you to everyone who offered genuine responses to my questions despite the trolls. I've gotten what I needed from this thread and I've now been connected with someone kind enough to help me out. Thanks, CGN!

Sure thing, I’ll round up his contact into and get it to you.

I mentioned wheelchair bound a couple times in my post and it certainly wasn’t meant as disrespect, it’s just a common saying like a guy that doesn’t get out the house much is house bound.

You’re taking it too literally.

Thanks, I look forward to getting in touch with him. I'd appreciate getting that contact info. Been talking with my pilot buddies for a while about getting back up in the air with hand controls strapped to the rudder pedals.

Just say "wheelchair user". I get most people don't get it but it makes a difference to the person hearing it.

I figured you had some aviation interest as the atpl in your username is a big clue.
