Really torn between the Axis and Hog Hunter curious if anyone has any 100 yard groups and general feedback?

Thanks
Randy

I had the hog hunter in both .308 and .223. They were all excellent rifles for the money. blind magazine was not a problem. I only sold them so I could get the same two calibers in the Ruger Gunsite Scout rifle format. Would not hesitate to buy another in if I found one in .338 Win mag

I recently had the same debate. I found a hog hunter at a great price locally so I went with it. I had a couple inch groups shooting off hand with 223 vmax reloads. I have not tried anything serious off the bench as of yet. Here is the pros I came up with during my debate

Hog Hunter
Pros
-Iron sights
-Mid weight barrell (could be a con if your carrying it alot)
-Better action
-Accutrigger (depending which axis you buy)
-Threaded barrell (does not help perform but helps the cool factor if your into that stuff)

Axis
Pros
-Removable Magazine
-Weighs less
-Good project rifle (as there is lots of easy improvements to make)
-100$ cheaper and savage offered a rebate for this rifle but not the hog hunter
-Comes scoped
-Possible accutrigger

Couple things I have noticed about the hog hunter are:

1. Lots of reviews said it was hard to load the blind mag but I have not had any problems even with a scope

2. With the iron sights at max adjustment it shot very high. Easy fix as I ordered ghost ring fire sights for the rifle

3. Lots of complaints about the crappy stock (for both the axis and hog hunter). It does not bother me much but if it does Its an easy replacement with a boyds stock.

Hope that helps!

Thank you! I looked at Mossberg, Remington, Sako, and I just keep coming back to Savage for the value.

I am not a bench guy but want to reach out and touch gophers at a couple of yards and have a robust rifle for my trunk.

Found a Hog Hunter for 489.00 NIB with Accutrigger going to add a Harris Bipod and adjustable cheek rest and a scope with QD rings and a funky muzzle brake. :)
