I'm an acquaintance of an ammo maker in the states and started talking with him about our 303 situation and he offered to do a couple runs of it for us if there is enough interest. He told me he can likely make it for around 50 cents a round for reloadable match grade ammo, but he'd need a minimum order of approximately 4000 rounds. Any interest?

Jeebuz, I hope one of our CGN ammo sellers (Hey Kate!!!) gets on this!!! The only reason I don't shoot my L-E much anymore is the expense of the ammo!!!!

What only 4000!? At $0.50/rd Canadian to the end user!? He had better up that production # big time!

Ps: if this happens....I can hear a lot of those LE's getting out of the safe and stretching a bit!

it would be 50 cents a round US so approximately 62 cents Canadian

Would shipping, export permits, packaging, etc be extra on top of that as well?

It likely would be, but subsequent runs would be cheaper because on this first run, he has to pay for dies for his machines and whatnot. We aren't finished crunching all the numbers yet as we're just gauging interest at this point.

Cool.

Will he have to get his ammunition approved/tested by NRCAN?

I'm sure your friend has looked into this, but just thought I'd post it here anyway: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/33921-Approved-Ammo-List

I would love some .303BR that is cheaper than $30/box... I'd probably be in for 500. Maybe 1000?

You can put me down for 1000 as long as I can get them for under $0.85 a round and it uses a flat base bullet! otherwise I will continue to buy them from Le Baron with my discount card for about $20 a box for Winchester factory ammo as needed.

what are the specs? Bullet weight? Bullet Profile? Are we looking at reproduction Mk7 ball ammo here?

If He could somehow get a hold of some 174g Flat base, FMJ bullets for these, I would not be surprised if that 4000rnd number was met in a single order.

yeah, i would love to buy a run of new made mk7 projectiles

So, the natural progression of this thread is interesting.

We started at 50 cents

Then add exchange, shipping, export permits, packaging, NRCAN approval, permit and import charges etc etc.. If you put in a middle man/retail sellers, there is a mark-up on that.

I think you get pretty far north of $1.00 - $1.20 a round.

I wish you luck, but I think in the end this will be a non-starter.
