Any interest in handgun hunting?

I know it will never happen but would you, if it were legal, hunt with a handgun?

I'd like to try it - perhaps with a classic Model 29 Smith & Wesson in .44 Magnum. I think a 6" barrel would be ok, alough I certainly wouldn't complain if it had the 8 3/8" barrel. I believe a hard cast 300gr bullet would deal with any of our ungulates up to 100 yards or so.

What would you hunt and what would you use?

It WILL happen.

I'm ready to go with a scoped Dan Wesson 44 Mag with 8" barrel and a 500 S&W revolver, not much I couldn't hunt with those two.

Then I would need to buy this:

<Snip> By far the best place to start is with your province, it is easier to effect change on smaller scales. Does BC expressly prohibit hunting with handguns? Not all provinces do. The last two years in a row the Alberta Fish & Game Association has put forth a request to remove the prohibition on handgun hunting in the Alberta regs, but so far the government has stonewalled. We got the prohibition on crossbows removed a few years ago, so handguns are not beyond imagination.

First, confirm that your provincial hunting regs expressly prohibit hunting with a handgun. If they do, start writing to your local MLA, the minister in charge of natural resources/hunting and maybe your premier. Second, write to your MP (if CPC) and start working on them to loosen the rules from the federal side.

BC's 2012-2014 hunting regulations states hunting with a handgun is illegal (page 9). I have already mailed two letters, one addressed to the Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource, Steve Thompson (BC) and the second letter to the Minister of Justice & Attorney General, Shirley Bond (BC). The third letter to my MP (Tory) is still being compiled. BTW, these are mailed letters, not emails. To other BC hunters, there is a provincial election on the horizon ;).

How about the rest of you? Wishing for handgun hunting here on CGN won't make it happen. You have to PUSH BACK!

I would love to carry a 22 lr pistol when moose hunting to shoot my ruffed grouse with or a larger revolver when bear hunting with my bow or even just hunting deer and other animals with an appropriate calber in a handgun. I'm not sure I'd ever become a serious handgun hunter but I'd love to have those options.
However, I think there is another important reason to push for this right(privelage?) As firearm owners it seems we are often fighting to keep the rights we have, giving up small bits of 'ground' and comprimising along the way with the recent abolishment of the LR registry and obvious exception. To fight for more rights, even if we never get them(and I hope we do, of course) may , at the very least, help up from giving up other rights.

I really hope I see this happen. I'm young so I have never seen this privlage, but would love to hunt with a handgun. I'm thinking about a trip south of the boarder to try it out.
As others are asking, who do I contact to try and get this changed?
