Any Love for the Rem 600 Mohawk

Always liked the vent rib on the 600 models; couldn’t tell you why and it doesn’t seem like I have a lot of company in the fan club

Mine’s a .308 with the rib. I like the distinctive look.

I’m presently looking for a Redfield scout mount to go with the older Redfield IER scope I scrounged up.
I guess Remington and Redfield were ahead of the “scout” curve......

Years ago I had a Remington Model 600 in 350 Mag. It was a handy, effective close cover rifle, but I found it had some negatives. The open sights sat-up high on the rib and caught on brush, the plastic rib was fragile, I did not like the plastic triggerguard and non-dropping floorplate, the safety/trigger was dangerous (I know there is a recall) and the ammo/brass was expensive/hard to find. So I sold the rifle after taking one whitetail with it, and replaced it with a Remington 7600 Carbine in 35 Whelen. WK

the 300 RSAUM would work in a magnum 600 or 660. I presently have two 660's one in 350 Rem Mag and one in 6.5 Rem Mag . I wore out the 6.5 Barrel so re-barrelled it in a 23" Pac-Nor Super Match tube also in 6.5 Rem Mag. 130 Accubonds at 3130ft/sec make a nice statement on game. The Pacnor tube is almost as accurate as the original Remington Barrel, not sure how they made such nice barrels in the old days but every 600-660 I have owned shot like crazy with the right loads. Found a 308 takeoff 600 barrel at a gun show for 35.00 and I am tempted to switch barrels on the 6.5 and chamber it in the 300 RSUAM. 37", 6 pound sheep gun with 30-06 ballistics. Might be worth it.

Good day all: I presently have 2-660's one in .222(my favorite walking rifle) and a .243 in a custom Gary Goudy designed stock with a timney trigger and cmvw aluminum bottom metal. The .222 has a steel bottom metal from Numrich.
They both are very very accurate with handloads.

Forgot, I also have one in 7mm-08 AI. Not quite as fast as the 284, but pretty close. And yes, they are all quite accurate. One in a saum cartridge would be interesting, but with that cartridge available from the factory in the model 7, seems like a lot of work. I had a 350 that I sentbto Alaska years back. Still have a Mauser in that cartridge though. The 6.5 RM is basically a 6.5-06 in a short handy action, makes a great packing gun for sheep and similar. - dan

Any fans of the Remington Model 600 Mohawk series of rifles?

Just scored this little gem in .222 Rem..... Plain wood stock w/o any checkering. Factory 18.5" barrel. Someone previously had removed the iron sights. Scope is a vintage B&L Balfor B [fixed 4x] with tapered cross hairs.

Overall, appears to be otherwise excellent condition. Looking forward to trying 'er out. :)

Ah-Ha! I knew ye might scoop that unit we fondled last week. The rifle is in excellent condition & at the price, it was a gift. :)
Only thing that held me back was my lack of room in me safes. You're gonna dig the Mohawk.
