Any Love for the Rem 600 Mohawk

I’ve got a hand me down one in 308 with the 18 inch barrel and irons, put a old Simmons scope on it and made my longest shot so far 480 yards, it’s a nice rifle if a bit on the heavy side but I prefer my 303 Brit endfield for hunting

Currently assembling one from parts. Barreled receiver with trigger mechanism from an auction. Stock from a WTB ad in the EE. Bolt and magazine assembly from the tickle trunk. I think I will go whole hog and use a metal trigger guard. These are excellent little hunting rifles.

Test fired it yesterday evening. A handy .308. A recoil pad is in its future.

The bolt is from a Model 7, hence the swept back handle instead of the dog leg.

I sighted in my uncle's 308win rifle yesterday, with 180gr winchester(the budget available everywhere grey box soft points), it did not group well at all.
Nor with my 180gr nosler BT reloads that my xbolt love.
Talking 4" groups at 100yrds with both.

Has an old crappy bushnell scope on it, with no eye relief and barely an eye box, which doesn't help.

Expected accuracy? I was thinking maybe a lighter bullet might do better.

Accurate in 308

I get 1" 3 shot groups conssitently with Remington 150gr factory ammo. reloads in 150 &180gr shoot 1.5" or better 5rd groups (all at 100yds). Has lightweight Leupold 3-9x scope.

My first center fire rifle was a Mohawk 600 in 222. Picked that up off a guy I worked with when I was in high-school for $175.....should never have sold that.

My shooting buddy has the same rifle that he covets. I think it looks just dandy with the short barrel and it shoots lights-out.
