If memory serves well, the initial price estimate on the Type 81 was something like $1200 back in the day it was first announced/speculated on, and this was with a much stronger Canadian dollar.
I just don't know if I'd want to dish out that kind of money for a rifle that essentially looks like an SKS / Vz-58 hybrid... and is made in China to boot! (the land of notorious corner-cutting when it comes to mass produced goods)
The perfect price range for this would be $600-700 (like the CZ-858 were when they first appeared), but actual price will probably be close to double that.

Really? They're expected to be that much?
That really puts a damper on my excitement to get one.
Does seem a bit much for a glorified SKS.
But still...
But its not a glorified sks...

More than $600 would be too much for me. Norinco is just too cheap for me to justify spending that much money on them.
Maybe he'll find a dealer that will put a type81 on layaway lol.
norinco is just an exporter and arms dealer, various factories / arsenals make the firearms.
Chinese military firearms from the 1950s onward are pretty high quality as far as military firearms go. A lot of the "norinco" commercial stuff is pretty terrible though.
