Any outfitter owners here?

My ignore list is expanding thanks to this thread... I am not nearly as mature and magnanimous as Ardent... an A-hole is an A-hole is an A-hole... I'll skip the conversation and move on to something more productive.

Wiser man than me Hoyt, and ‘46 no, there’s no pretending there and no need to. Even the company owner didn’t know who the VIP was. I don’t need to make an excuse as even if I’d known, I’d still go, I’ve been slowly learning to have an open mind and not let politics dictate my life. Took grey hairs to get to that point so not a rate of personal development I’m proud of. I’m just a pilot who gets to fly interesting folks sometimes but flattered you seem to think I roll in the levels of pay to play.

As for your friend, who’s that? I’ll almost certainly know him or of him, as I have the same spec sheet. It’s an industry smaller than a small town, and very few of us fly helis and planes. Your concepts of the industry are admittedly warped, and a conversation with your friend if he’s a high time rotary guy will colour in the gaps. For the first time in a dozen years, I’m home every night. That’s an unbelievably rare thing, rare enough I’d fly you if asked to. :d And without the internet in the way we may even have a good talk while at it.

I don’t know you, I probably don’t agree on your political choice(I don’t agree with most on that anyway) but after following this thread and now reading this, I have respect for the dialog and the person you are exposing in the above reply!!
Respect!

Respect back, and we probably share a lot politically and almost certainly vote the same way. Despite that we’re able to have conversations and respect for those that don’t, and bring them our points of view in a manner that catches their ear rather than their back.

Yes, you are, you usually don’t even know who you’re flying until they walk down the ramp on jobs like that, and that’s just how Jagmeet went. But that’s besides the point, if you shut yourself out of conversations with those you disagree with nothing will ever change by excluding yourself. I’m very grateful to be able to have a conversation like that.

How long have you been a commercial helicopter pilot? ;)

I think you make a very good point here about shutting yourself out of the conversation. It's no wonder gun ownership is in such a bad place when the only response most gun owners will give someone like Singh is the middle finger. More gun owners having real conversations with left-leaning politicians, rather than screaming they're communists and dismissing them entirely certainly can't hurt.

Singh has supported trudeaus every move , except for when he needed to run attack adds during the election..... which makes him a raving hypocrite and unfit to lead this nation.
We all saw it...... don't tell me you didn't
He spent the last few years propping up the liberal regime and ensuring the demise of sport shooting and hunting across the nation.
On any given day , no matter how the moment came to be, when you allow yourself to be photographed with a big sh!t eating grin standing next to an enemy of our culture and way of life..... there is no "explanation" needed. When a Guide Outfitter, fellow hunter and shooter does it...... WOW..... It is an endorsement, no matter what is said or offered as an excuse after the fact. If a celebrity stands beside a politician in the same way it is also viewed publicly as an endorsement so how in the world is this any different. It isn't..... it's just one more "of us" selling us all out to save thier own skin .

I've been in Ardents shoes, albeit as a charter operator and guide for salmon and steelhead in the chuck and rivers. I would never let my picture be taken standing next to a DFO official or politician that I did not fully support..... not ever..... for any reason..... even if the guy was a good listener LOL

I have opinions about this, but I also don’t care what some stranger on the internet does. Many NDP voters who are gun owners in NW BC (not this guy on both counts)

I’ve worked in this area and spend a lot of time around helicopter pilots so none of it seems especially magical to me. Kind of the opposite tbh, 60 degree slopes and devils club… Why is everyone so interested in Ardents personal brand?

I guess I’m trying to establish that I neither know nor care about Ardent ( in the nicest way possible though bud!) and I can’t see why a community of (hopefully) liberty oriented people is crucifying someone for having different opinions than them? I’ve long wished that environmentalist groups and hunters in BC would take on the powerful guide outfitter lobby together and address the insanity that is BCs open seasons

Successful self promotion I guess. Lord knows why but once again, Who cares? Obviously a personal brand has been created and is now pivoting. This is inconsequential to all of our lives. I hate to sound like Ardent (in this case at least) but I am going to go out on a limb and say very few on these boards and even in the province have explored it’s extreme NW corner.

This is a wonderful area worthy of protection for its uniqueness as an ecosystem in the WORLD. I spent most of my adult life in BC and a small portion of my career in that general area. I’d rather have it under the tenure of raincoast and First Nations with the goal of conservation and economic development outside of primary resource extraction. As someone who has lived in small northern communities in BC it’s hard to watch the boom bust resource extraction cycle unfold, especially in the NW corner of the province and the North Island where it is dramatic.

Yes this might read a little lefty. Don’t get fooled, I have worked in the oil and forestry industries extensively.

there is not such a thing about left or right on canadian political chess so do not worry conor_90 about what others said.

for the rest: i agree with some and my ignore list went up a shame we cannot create a love list ...

the same people i wish to meet or i already met are not on the ignore list but i have the excuse to be older and not needing some love in return ...

I had a dream last night that I was a pilot assigned to fly Singh and Trudeau across the far North Tundra, when I landed I was the only one left in the plane.

Phil you are a euro so you know owning guns is not a matter of politics. Our Nordic friends who make all my favourite stuff have a welfare state that would make Jagmeet recoil in fear.

Man who gives a crap that an outfitter sold their territory. No more wealthy Americans or Europeans killing game in one part of BC. Would be a great opportunity for residents to hunt without competition.

Geoff I said the same thing a year ago. A wise man would be asking him to mark up a map instead of bashing him on the internet to make themselves look better in front of people they will never meet. Family comes first.

You trusting the same gut feel you had on me when we didn’t meet at a gun show I’ve never been to? ;) Forgive me, had to.

In all seriousness, you do you. I’ll do me. Enjoy your life and take care of you and yours.

fair enough but 100% you met me at a gunshow in kamloops about a dozen years ago now, when lazerus2000 and I were doing the southern circuit. We chatted briefly and I find it pretty silly that you are denying it happened LOL you are now straight up lying.
I was the "m14doctor" at the time and we talked about the rifles briefly and you moved on. It;s how I knew your first name long before your hunting and flying exploits were posted on CGN.
I too enjoyed many of your posts and threads on your many adventures but I've met many guides , bush pilots and high arctic pilots so I was not in awe of your tales as many others here might be. I grew up on it with a father and his friends who flew fixed wing commercially and as a kid getting taken for flights in twin otters, beavers on floats, cessnas and pipers..... Certainly not gonna kiss your's and hoyt's asses all the time so you guys don't get all offended and start bragging about ignore lists LOL

ya bud, you do you but my thoughts on that photo and what it represents remain the same.
you put yourself on that pedestal by posting your exploits here so you just gotta suck it up and take it when folks see a pic of you saddling up to a jerk off like jagmeet.

most of canadians have not a clue what is a welfare state or the guns and politics ... but honestly at the end we should enjoy while we can ...

Well this is an easy one, I have never been to any gun show in Canada. I was also early in my heli career path and living in Fort Nelson that era, and certainly wasn’t travelling to Kamloops for gun shows. I certainly hope you didn’t give this imposter money.

How tall was he, and did he have an accent?

Where Jughead's face diaper? Guess he only wears it for official photos.

Someone is lying here… I mean many are lying here lol!

d:h:f:P:

Jesus man, give it up!

Big difference between someone who owns a company and someone who flys for a company.

You think taxi drivers give a political questionnaire before they will drive you across town?

Close friend of mine has been a pilot for years and owns his own helicopter and plane. He chooses what jobs he wants to do and has done very well for himself. Let's not pretend pilots are work starved, we are talking BC and Alberta work, not international flights that have been subject to travel bans

As for pretending to not know you were being hired to fly the leader of the NDP around until you got to your helicopter.......

If shutting yourself out of working for someone means you don't get a conversation, then so be it. If you have to cater to someone to have a discussion, that is called pay for play.

Imagine if a contractor had to build a house for Jagmeet to have have a discussion or a car salesman has to sell him a car, etc, etc.

Hold up you trying to tell me a heli pilot doesn’t get to just swing ####, burn jet fuel & freedom, and pick his passengers and work in advance?

It’s all a moot point, as I’d have flown him even if I knew well before. I feel lucky to have the freedom to say a lot of things not everyone agrees with, and am increasingly less stressed about doing so. Part of the greying hair deal is my theory, you get to give fewer verbs.

You gotta get me a ride in the angry egg sometime Simon. Seeing that thing rip down the other side of Tunkwa valley in the smoke was some kinda awesome. Except perhaps for the colour.
