No dust cover, no reciprocating handle or forward assist, no purchase.
This is perfect! You got me really interested now! I like the looks of quad rails but there heavy and most of the time not use and wen use its mostly useless crap for what we use our guns for. I like my prs but it has its function on the platform I have, but I think for me the a2 on your rifle would probably be perfect. I am really happy with the barrel options you are talking about, so I guess we are talking about a 600-800 yard precision hunting rifle in the 8-10 lbs range with optic, thats awsome. I was really hoping this wasn't going to be a 26 inch heavy barrel gun coming in the 12-14 lbs. What we are looking at doing is offering about 3 different models.
Stage 1 Base model with something similar to A2 butt stock and round JP style for end. The options for barrels will be 18.5" light contour or 20" varmint contour.
Stage 2 Enhanced model with PRS style butt stock and round JP style for end. The options for barrels will be 18.5" light contour or 20" varmint contour.
Stage 3 Elite model PRS butt stock, carbon fiber PRI style for end and Proof research CFW barrel in 20"
Too early for weight, but we hope to be in the 7 to 8 lb area for the base model.
We still have a TON of work ahead of us to go from prototype to production.
There are a lot of semi auto rifles out there, hunting and otherwise that don't have dust covers. Not sure they are really needed.
Come to think of it, apart from the AR15, I come up blank on other rifles that have port covers or forward assists.
STG44 has a port cover, though no other rifle immediately comes to mind afterwards. Still the idea behind it is sound and considering you're going for an AR10 style rifle in .308 size and there are off the shelf dust covers available why wouldn't it be an option?
I have used the forward assist on my AR15 but I prefer a reciprocating charging handle. I can understand why one wouldn't be used on a rifle geared towards accuracy however there is a good chance people will be reloading for these rifles. It is very nice to have the ability to using the charging handle to remove an oversize case that the bolt doesn't want to close on. Or conversely to help the cartridge the remaining distance into the chamber. Not ideal situations, but still welcome features.
I think both would not be difficult to include in your design as optional.
The XCR has a non-reciprocating charging handle, and you can still clear the chamber... So not sure i get what you are saying ^ ?
we are lucky if it only double that. This would be very competitive at the $1500 to $2000 mark. Not sure if this is possible though. I'd pick one up at that price if it proves reliable. Probably dreaming though.

Maybe accuracy and ergonomics? As surprised as I am to hear myself say it, I could be in the market for one of these. My tastes fall somewhat outside the traditional "black rifle" look, but I would very much like an accurate semi in a deer-hunting caliber and barrel length (20" or so). A BAR almost does it, I'm not sure exactly what I don't like about them. .260 Remington would be fantastic.
Right! Those are the things!Maybe accuracy and ergonomics?
Right! Those are the things! Some stuff about typical black rifles also fails my ergonomics test, like quad rails up front. From the posts here it sounds like furniture would be flexible, so I'm sure something would work for me.
