Any Plans for a .308 AR? MAJOR UPDATE MAY 8 2014

I think it is great that a CDN manufacture is giving this a go. I hope it works out.
There is no reason why we can;t have .308 semi's. to go hunting with.

Kinda lame we end up having to pay high prices because of decisions made years ago by the liberals. But thats another story.

If ATRS can make a NR .308 semi down the road in a few years, I will buy it. If it is good maybe they can sell it outside Canada and recoup their investment costs. And lower our retail in the process :)

All the best. Update us in the new year...... :)

+1 we're routing for you ATRS

Need to do more research gents there are a ton of .308 AR's out there...... The Gun Dealer has a CGN posting on the forum right now for a Sig .308 platform, CQB & standard length barrel, they are expensive so bring your cc's and leave the conscience in your wifes purse. I'd love to see ATRS do a .308 build for the market, you guys have a spectacular rep in the community & I imagine for good reason, I'm not trying to cut your grass here at all so my apologies. Just trying to inform the ill informed that's all. To what Briddonic posted, I would not have anything to do with a RobArms XCR in any mod they have, but that is just me personally so take my opinion for what it is. I have had one bad experience that has jaded me forever on their product......anyone have some locktite I can borrow? IMHO it's almost blasphemous to mention them in a AR thread but I'm a fickle beast. My 2c

Rest assured that anything we build will not be anything like an XCR, we prefer guns that work are accurate and are not Loktite dependant.

This whole thread is about ATRS (great builder) trying to push through a non-restricted .308 based semi-auto rifle, so that there are tons of AR10s out there is mute, as they are just that, AR's, thus restricted.

The SAPR you are referring too has been with the CFC for over 4 and half years, if not more....

I just found this thread, i have been waiting to buy an xcr-m for hunting whenever some were available, but im going to wait and see what you guys come up with before i buy anything else, so if it works ill be another buyer for sure!!

So far the plan is proprietary upper and lower that will use AR10 style mags, barrel extension, modified bolt but standard furniture (the plan is to use the Magpul PRS stock and some sort of either quad rail or the PRI carbon fiber for end) and gas system. Side charging similar to the XCR, non interchangeable 4 lb single stage match type trigger

Please use the bushmaster style mags, if your going after a hunting rifle, it would be cool if you used a proof research barrel for weight savings, why would to go through all the time and money to make a custom rifle that you can't change the trigger on? Kind of shooting yourself in the foot (pun intended) IMO. Will be interesting to see for sure!

The way it was described to me, the Grendel build was relatively easy, or when you mean nightmare are you talking more about the customer having issues or the building of it itself?

The customer was great, the headache was the fact that the XCR barrel extension tolerances are all over the map. Gas regulation also posed issues.
Keeping the gun together short of bathing it in Loktite also posed problems.

Well now it has been a full year since the RCMP have had the gun, and not 1 single word of response from them.
And they wonder why so few respect them these days?

How much time did you spend working on the project prior to sending it in for classification?

Perhaps a media outlet or twelve would be interested in your story? Ragging on the RCMP seems to generate lots of page views for them, after-all. It would also be free publicity for the rifle (you know, for when it FINALLY gets classified).

Sure fire way to get it classified as prohibited!

Yes. I agree that would be the likelihood.
I am considering moving my location to downtown (Harpers constituency) as my current MP is a foreign waste of skin and offers no help at all.
Maybe just maybe if I had the head honcho for an MP something might happen.

I am seeking a legal opinion to determine "what if?" we just start making them and selling them? This might just force them to get off the stick and DO something. The question however is what?

It doesn't need a classification to be sold outside of Canada, does it? You might be able to start recuperating costs that way.

On a side-note, do you need a good drafter? This province is killing me slowly.

I'd donate to that. You know, since every person with a firearms license is allowed to manufacture firearms for their own use...could we rent your shop to make ourselves a rifle?

The sad thing is that anything we do to annoy them will just get the rifle classified as prohibited. That's just wrong, a complete perversion of how the government is supposed to work.

Another month past, any news?
I am really looking forward to this rifle (in a NR classification) becoming a reality, offering us all another option that will allow hunting with a ,308 semi that has good accuracy and the bonus of being "Made in :canadaFlag:" is not to be overlooked:D

Regardless of the outcome (but thinking positive all the time) I appreciate that ATRS has gone to the effort of putting together a NR option (hopefully) in a ,308 semi, kudos to them:rockOn:

Thank you for the kind words of support.
Yes yet another month has passed with no response from the RCMP
On a possibly bright note, in desperation I contacted Gary Breikreitz the MP from Saskatchewan seeing as the waste of skin I have for an MP would not get off his ass for anyone unless they were wanting to build a new mosque in the area. Gary replied to my request for help very quickly, at the CSSA dinner last Friday we spoke in person and he was very positive that he may be able to get minimally some answers and possibly something happening. So here is hoping and I thank Gary for taking the time to look at this for us all.
