Any plans for a red rifle in 5.45x39mm?

Robinson arms makes a barrel for this calibre, if anyone was interested in going in that direction, plus it'd be possible for a non restricted length. Not to be the guy to post about western rifles in the Red rifle section just letting people know.

So the 5.45 x 39 cartridge is more powerful than the 7.62 x 39? What other benefits would this have other than variety and maximum effective range?

No, 7.62X39 is more powerfull then 5.56 as well as 5.45, just check kinetic energy for each cartridge.
But 5.45 gives more control for the fullauto AK74 as well as flat trajectory compared to AK familly in 7.62X39

5.45x39 is not rare ammo!!! its one of the most mass produced modern military rounds .. In the US its the cheapest surplus ammo on the market .. Its only rare in Canada because why the hell would a dealer import it if they do not sell a rifle chambered for it .. If i remember correct Henry from Budget Shooter Supply said he could bring a crapload in from his US supplier if a rifle ever hits the market.

When I go to the States I see piles of crates of it at gun/sporting goods stores, so I don't know why we in Canada cant get it. Bring in the guns and I bet someone will bring in the ammo.

Nice to see some other ppl thinking the same way as me, i was expecting nothing but "why would you want 5.45" replies:cool:

There are number of firearms produced in Russia in this caliber. Unfortunately, they are all prohibs here due to AK platform design...East Germans made SSG-82 bolt action rifle in 80's in small quantities, probably extremely hard to find. There are some AR platform rifles in 5.45x39 available in USA.

Savage makes a bolt action rifle in 5.45, other than that and a 5.45 version of the Vz58 the only other realistic prospect for a nonrestricted 5.45 setup is if the Tula ADS and A-91 rifles are cleared for import.

although vz58 in 5.45 would be awsome, I think czech's don't like their gun compared to AK's so it may not happen just for pride and what not

I think the 7.62x39 is the best cartridge out there and cheap to boot. I just don't think the 5.45 offers much more except for trajectory and more cheap ammo.
