Any recipes for IMR 4320 in 7.62 x54É

Just got the dies, would like to use 4320 for 7.62 x 54 as I use this powder it in all my rifles and would keep things simple. Haven`t decided on a bullet weight yet. Any thoughts would be great.

The problem with the 1 powder approach is you can end up with one powder that doesn't work very good in many calibres (unless it's Varget ;) ) instead of having the best performance for each calibre you load.

Hodgdon who sells the powder you mentioned lists no data for it in this calibre. A search of several manuals shows IMR 4895 being popular in various bullet weights for this calibre and IMR 4320 only used in the Hornady Manual with 130gr and 150gr bullets.
7.62x54r Hornady
130gr bullet IMR 4320 41.8gr - 48.6gr max
150gr bullet IMR 4320 38.0gr - 45.4gr max

I would recommend choosing the bullet you want to shoot, then through Hodgdons powder data site or a manual finding a powder that is suitable to load for it. IMR 4350 data is also common for heavier bullets.

X2

As said above a better one-size-fits-all powder for heavier 150gr+ bullets is 4350. I use it for every hunting load i have.

Thanks I will work with that, here is the lee Data sheet

You're the first guy I've ever heard state that IMR4320 is their "go-to" powder! IMR4320 is one of those powders that is almost never listed in a suggested load, and for which relatively few published loads exist - Herco is another. There's nothing wrong with it (I have had a pound of it for a few years, and used a few hundred grains of it), but it seems almost interchangeable with H4895 of which I'm near the bottom of a five pound container - it just gets overlooked.

Your thread seems to follow a theme we see a fair bit here, one of the "General Purpose Powder". It's understandable for someone starting out in reloading, or with limited space, to want to use just one or two powders (I started with H4350 as I recall), but unless you only reload one or two cartridges, you'll quickly find that no one, two, or even four powders will provide optimum velocity and/or accuracy with multiple bullet weights.

That having been said, with the 7.62X54, IMR4320 is most suitable for 150 gr and lighter bullets, and H4350 or IMR4350 (as fiddler stated) can take it from there for heavier bullets.

I like it as I found it works nicely in my M305, AR, Enfield, Israel mauser, I load all of them moderately. It was the first one I found that had data for all 3 calibres and it's easy to get in 8lb containers. Seems to work nicely. I don't have time to experiment a lot right now with other powders and keeping the numbers of powders I use down saves money and prevent mistakes caused by using the wrong powder.

Many years ago, I develope a very accurate load for my Dragunov, and this summer, I tryed these loads in my SVT 40.

Wow, super accurate.

Bullet is an Hornady 180 grs round nose, diam .311 (.303)

Powder is 46.5 Grs IMR 4320
