The reason i am looking to tactical and semi is because i already have 5 rifles:
2 bolt actions rifle Savage mark ii in 22 LR and 17HMR
2 air rifles (1 coil spring and 1 nitro piston)
1 shotgun remington 870 express.
And now i am looking for some cool looking rifle for target shooting, i am also considering the options of getting a tactical rifle in 223 too if i can find the one i like within my budget ( max $1000).
I do like the look of the Colt M4A1, Ar15 and i did look into the Norinco CQA but that one is restricted.
By the way, a semi-auto rimfire rifle with overall length of MORE than 660 mm is not restricted right? Does not matter if it is tacital looking?
There isn't much in the way for AR style non restricted guns for under $1000. The only choice is really the su16 and will be right around $1000 after you buy the forehand and pistol grip.
The best choice for you I would think if you want tactical and NR I would go with an sr-22.
Only one choice....SR22
Do you own one? If so, what have you swapped out on it and how much have you spent?
Reason why I ask if my friend looked around at all the rimfires and bought the sr-22. It didn't shoot as well as my mossy and he dropped $200 on a heavy barrel, $200 on a quad rail, $200 on 2 50 round drums, $200 murader stock. So $800 not including shipping and taxes. The gun was $600. So he spent $1400 with no optics on a rimfire.
The gun is great if you sink money into it!

why would he buy a marauder stock for the SR-22?
Savage Makes a nice plinker with a tac stock by bell and carlson I believe. In 17hmr and .22lr
I'm guessing thats why he bought it. If you read my original post, I said the sr-22 is a good gun. However I just wanted to let the poster to know what he'd get into if he got an sr-22 as well as every other gun!Basic 10/22 + Marauder kit = pretty cool looking .22 for about $550!
I was wondering the same thing. That and why he bought a $200 quad rail and marauder kit? I have no hate for the mossy .22 as a budget plinker that does look the part and shoot half decent but you can't seriously compare the tactical .22 to the sr22 in anyway except that they both shoot .22lr. And yes I do own both and side by side out of the box the sr is hands down the superior rifle in every category.
