I gotta a 3 footer that bounces around here. It makes the one pictured look puny. As luck would have it, everytime he presents himself the rifle is in another room.

When I do get him, he'll be rugged. Just a matter of time...

I don't hunt them, but I frequent areas where they are found. What setup do you guys recommend for "Chipmunk Defense"? Or should that be a separate thread?

Are we talking about the same animal? No Chipmunk grows to 3 feet! They never get as big as a squirrel!

I went out looking for some monsters all day today. I saw a 7' tall one but I wasn't walking around with the .50 loaded, once I loaded it, he was gone like the wind. Tomorrow, I am going out again. I set out bait and hopefully that attracts some more in for tomorrow.

"Chipmunk Defense"

The biggest firearm that you can shoulder and fire without flinching. Being able to bounce a quarter at expected ranges with it, is also helpfull.

With whatever you use, knowing your limitations is key to success.

This is only speculation on my end... You see, I dont have Chipmunks running around my parts.

Just them pesky Squirrels.

Most guides will not hunt with anyone using a smaller calibre than the .338 win. mag. I have a .300 but dont use a guide, and even then I feel a little nervous. With a 3-9 power scope on it, I can take longer shots (ie. up to 275 yards is my longest comfortable shot), however if I provoke a charge then I have some fast thinking to do. Terrifies me just thinking about it. I have not used a guide and also have not harvested one of these magnificent beasts. Im not sure but I think there is a DVD coming out called "Brown Death", kind of the Black Death take off series.
