Just curious, in a SHTF scenario (God forbid), how many mags would you want to carry on you anyway? What do you think of mag(s) on a drop leg rig? Inefficient? Too heavy?
I'm leaning towards 2 on rifle to start (with coupler), 6 in my chest rig, 1 on belt...of course I'm just dreaming and have no idea how much this would actually weigh...
Okay back to my mirror....![]()
The exception is that I'm running a couple quad HSGI Shingles from Darren at One Shot. They each hold 4 AK mags (staggered overlapping), open top with bungee retention.
AbH,
That does sound very well thought out and a darn good start...I've wondered how comfortable the X-Harness is for the TT Mav. How does your rig feel when on? Thanks for reminding me too about hydration!
Cool! That's a whole lotta mags. How's the bungee retention on those pouches work with the curve of the VZ mag?
Mambo:
I have never had a good experience with drop leg stuff... definatly not ammo... its a pain on the leg, can twist your belt pretty bad, puts extra weight on your hips, and is a pain to get at when in kneeling or prone (let alone in a vehicle)
I would stick with the Neit Arms setup or AbH's for sure... my only addition would be a Riggers belt with 1x mag pouch, dump pouch, and lanyard with 180 degree attachment point... but thats just cause im so tacticool
EDIT: the only thing I run drop leg is a holster
On the far right I have my primary pouch that is just a simple M14/FAL pouch with some Kydex inserts sewn in that hold VZ mags firmly, I feed that pouch from the 3 chest pouches or work right to left depending on what I'm doing (generally with 5 round mags I'm just working my way across). Behind the primary pouch is the dump pouch. Finally the far left pouch carries the mags positioned for support hand drills.
I like this one that Charles pointed out:

When I have the cash I will probably go that route.
Haha tacticool makes sense. Do drop leg holsters also flop around say if you're in full sprint even with straps tight? I could understand ammo flopping around cuz it would be heavier?
what about this one Vest
I cannot tell if mags will fit, however, very nice one
it's got "tactical", "assault", and "entry" in it's name, how could you go wrong?![]()
