Anybody got a 1-A in 303 yet?

Mine has been at the house for several days now, but I was not [Out hunting the elusive bull Elk] (Yes, our party was successful). But I got home this evening, and unwrapped it....wow! I am so pleased. Beautiful buttstock and just a nice feeling rifle overall. Trigger is awesome for a number 1, 4lbs, and nice and crisp. Now about the bore...I thought these were supposed to have a .311 groove diameter, but mine I slugged twice, and came up with the same both times, .3125. Now, I sure don't mind that, but it seems strange that an american builder would make the standard European groove diameter rather than the US .311 size. Bore size is dead on at .3028" I will post pics and a full report on it after shooting it a bit. I love it!! Eagleye.

I took the 303 to the range today for a few minutes. Only factory ammo I had on hand was the UMC 174gr FMJ. I never got great accuracy from this ammo in SMLE rifles but it wasn't horrible, either. Usually 3-4" at 100 yards.

SHot 2 groups and they were both about 1.75" at 100 yards

Both groups had 2 close together and one flyer. (top group has bullet hole int he black, you can barely see it, it's from my iTelephone camera. Look for a white dot on the black square)

I shot the rest of the box at the gong at 335 yards and offhand fun. Now I have some fireformed brass, and since accuracy was pretty decent with the FMJ stuff, I expect handloads to do quite well.

The thin barrel does heat up quick though it's not a big deal for a hunting rifle.

I've got the bore soaking in WIPEOUT right now, next step is a load work up with 150gr TSX bullets. If it goes well, I should have a hunting load ready in 10-15 rounds. Hopefully I don't have to #### around wtih putting pressure on the front screw etc or whatever they do to Ruger #1s:p

I was getting 2 plus a flyer as well. I took the forend off (no change) and then played around with tension on the front screw which seemed to do the trick. 4 shots into 1.25" at 100 and 2 into 2" at 200 and I called it a day. I look forward to seeing how consistently it holds POI over time and in different conditions cuz I'd like to hunt it this year.

Mine arrived today. Thank you Prophet River. :D

Me too, thanks!

Kind of surprised at how small it is, almost exactly the same handling as my NEF single shot for length.

It's almost too pretty to hunt with, just have to decide on a nice gloss compact scope not easy to find...

3" is pretty darn good, if that's the figure they're posting, I'd just get some staggered Leupold rings and you're off the the races. I had the Leupold "set back" rings on my last No.1, and I never shot them, but sighting was rendered perfect. Put the scope in the same position as my bolt actions.

I hung a 6x42 on mine, and the eye relief is just right with a medium weight jacket on, so should be fine. Have not shot it yet, but have loaded some ammo.....soon will have a report. Eagleye.

I wont get to shoot my 303 until tuesday, it'll be two weeks since my first and only range trip :( busy time of year, hard to find any time. I'll be developing a 150gr TSX load
