Anybody got a Marlin XT-22?

I only wish I had mine. I bought one from Epps back in March, and am waiting for it to come in. The guy who took my order gave me the heads up that it would be months.

I previously had the xt22vr (plastic stock, heavy barrel). Gun and games had them for dirt cheap so I figured I'd give it a try. I found I didn't really like the plastic stock or the heavy barrel for that matter so I sold it (just personal preference). It was reliable though and a good shooter. The trigger out of the box was about 4.2 lbs. Swap out the spring behind the trigger with a spring from a pen, and its about 1.5lbs. (fantastic trigger for such a cheap gun). In any case, I must have liked it alright because I bought another one, this time slim barrel with sights and wooden stock (again just personal preference). I haven't shot this one yet but did the trigger trick on it right away and again, 1.5lb trigger.
Hey...I've got both (Savage and Marlin).
About 3 months ago I purchased a 93FVSS (.22WMR) for myself and two XT-22 (wood stock), one for each of my sons.
So this won't be an accuracy comparison because they are two different cartridges.
The Savage action and bolt seems a little better finished...not much, and it may be more a case of the Savage being stainless steel.
But the Marlins are nicely finished and the bluing was excellent...deep and even.
I found the wood on the Marlins to be quite nice for the price. Nicely finished and the fit is very good...not a premium wood by any stretch (it's beech) but a heck of a lot nice than the Norinco I was also considering in the price range.
Way nicer!!
And in truth I found the wood on the Marlins to be much more solid then the cheap synthetic of the Savage (which will eventually wear a Boyds stock).
There is some internet chatter out their about the QC of the Marlin brand since its takeover by Remington. Supposedly there are a few of them with barrel issues and magazines and sights that aren't aligned properly.
My dealer had 5 in stock and he let me check all of them to pick the best 2...all however were flawless.
I threw a 3x-9x40 Bushnell scope on each one. At 50yds they are shooting 1/2-3/4" groups with a cheap Caldwell front rest...no rear bags or rests. At 100yds we've started to see some 1" groups...again, no fancy rests, and being the prairies there's always some wind.
I say...go for the Marlins.

Just got back from the range where I took my xt22 (wood stock, skinny barrel) on its maiden voyage. No issues with function and accuracy was very good. Tried a bunch of different cheap ammo through it and settled on cci mini mag. Here's the last 4 groups with cci minimags. 5 shots each @ 50 yards:
Pretty sure the savage mk2 and 64 do not use the same mag. The xt22 and the 795 do use the same mag however.
yeah.. found it out little while ago.. in this case, it would have been better if i had got the 795...
oh well. i really like the savage 64, so no big loss.
it would be really funny if i get the XT and manage to find a banana mag for it(795 high cap mag),
i would end up with low cap mag with semi auto, but high cap mag on bolt...
My 25 round shooters choice mag (for 795) does not fit properly. I think its the mag plate/cover that's keeping it from going in properly since the 25 round mag is much fatter part ways down. My 795 10 rounders and my 20 round metal stick mag (for model 70) fits and functions just fine in the xt22.

In case anyone might be interested in a simple trigger job on these, just remove the 2 hex screws holding the trigger assembly to the action. Remove the e-clip from the bottom pin and pull out the pin like so:
The trigger will slide right out. You will see a spring in the back of where the trigger came from. Pull it out and replace with a lighter spring and put it back together:
On the opposite side of this spring is the trigger pull adjustments. Its just a hex screw that pushes on the other end of this spring, creating more or less tension on the spring and therefore the trigger pull. Mine is at a little less than 1.5lbs now and it passes the bump test. Quite a nice trigger for a $200 rifle.

I have the 795 and the xt
The xt is awesome accurate out of the box fantastic
the 795 has a nice action and seems reliable the iron sights were crap
but with a 3-12x40 on her shes a fun shooter as well
sharing mags they make a great team and a fun day at the range

Have you had any problems with the bipod on yours? I've read online that the swivel studs are molded as part of the stock and they tend to break from using a bipod on them.

I have the XT-22 in .22LR with the magazine setup. Put a cheap Barska scope on her and once she was sighted in I was shooting wicked groups. I have not yet found any 10 round magazines so I just have the one 7 rounder so far.
Still though, a really sharp looking and fun to shoot rifle. And affordable too.

I love mine, with cheap bulk winchester ammo i can hit a pepsi can at 150 to 175 yards no trouble. Only have a 3-7 bushnell scope so the can is pretty small at those range...
