So I have been slowly working up a load for my 257 wby vanguard s2 using IMR 7828 and barnes 100 grn ttsx. Just wondering if anyone else has used this combination and what they have found to be maximum load. I started at 70.5 grns and slowly (6 test batches) worked my way up to 72.8 which I found very accurate in testing. It is a hot load, cci primers slightly flattened, some butt polishing on brass...bolt lifts no tighter than the rounds chamber (a little stiff, but not bad).

I am also waiting for a reply from barnes on this as I did not find exact load data for this combination, maybe should have emailed before I began loading?? Working off a combination of data with minimums around 70 grains, and maximums at 72-73 grains...

Any thoughts/criticism?
Somewhat new to reloading so any input is appreciated...Thanks.

Did you see the Barnes Sticky up top? Granted its for 7828 short cut and the TSX, but should be awfully close at 71 grains. I usually find the TSX maximum to be a couple grains under that which a more convention bullet will take so that makes sense.

I tried both the TTSX and TSX bullets. Found that the TTSX design does not shoot as well in my Vanguard 257 stainless or in my 30-338 using either 168 TTSX or TSX. Maybe something in the tips. I can't remember my load notes (away from home) but I was using something like 71.0 7828SSc but don't quote me.

Ya I found the sticky after I posted this...70.5 and 71.0 shot about moa for me so might have to do a little more experimenting in that range and see if I can tighten things up a little more...

If I am doing my part I can clover leaf them at 100 and put 3 rounds int 1.5 inches at 300 with my Rem 700 in a 257WBY with 100 gr ttsx. I am shooting 71gr of 7828SSC Fed 215 primers and a coal of 3.250. On a side note it will shoot the 110 gr Accubonds same as the 100 gr ttsx all the way out to 600 yards. same powder primer and coal. Might just be my riffle but MOA out to 600 yards consistantly.

Great caliber fun to shoot.
Enjoy!
