Anybody suggest a decent Revolver?

I havn't completly sold the idea to my wife yet(apparantly one new gun a year is enough :? ), but I think that before the new year I would like to purchase another revolver(already have an old .22 taurus). I'm thinking something .357/.38 for economics. I really don't know a lot about revolvers so any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Smith & Wesson 686. Possibly the best .357 revolver ever made.

Why settle for something that's just "decent"?

KO, it depends on what you are going to do with the new revolver. If you are going to punch holes I would look at a 6" revolver. My picks would be either a Dan Wesson, S&W M27, or S&W M66. If you are going to hunt I would look at a Ruger BlackHawk in 44 Mag. If you take the later course start with 44 Special rounds or target 44 Mag loads. Why? 44 Mags do kick! Regards and best, Richard :D

we can't hunt with pistols up here- the gov't thinks it's too dangerous- hence either 686 or gp 100- the 44 is a big, heavy pistol no matter which one you pick- and since were also limited to bbl lengths of over 4 inches( forcing cone to muzzle) you're going to have to go 5 or better- me? ruger redhawk 44 mag, 7.5 bbl with 44 spcl loads, but i've got fairly big hands- the ruger with the hogue fills them and then some- the one thing you don't want to do is intimidate a shooter coming up from 22- a full bore 44 or 454 will certainly do that- i say 357 6 inch with 38 spcls to start with, then 357s

so the 686 and GP-100 come highly recomended, that definatly points me in a direction to start looking. I would like something thats not going to cost me a lot more to shoot than my 9mm, but be a little more than the .22 I grew up with. Reloading is a possibilty. I have done, in the past, a fair bit of shotgun and riffle reloading, but I have not had any experiance with handgun ammo. It'll be just for plinking, no competition shooting, not yet anyway.
Thanks again everyone,

If cost is a consideration I would go with the GP100...In my case cost was an option if I had more to spend I may have considered a S&W. Thr ruger is a strong gun it may weigh a bit more than a smith...I am not sure. But mine is a pleasure to shoot. I shoot mostly .38spl loads for economy reasons. I am reloading .38spl for aprox. $6.00/50...using lead SWCs.

get another Taurus, I live my new .44mag :)

if you want a .357 you can get a Tracker for $540 (stainless) with ported barrel ( 7 shot), or a model 66, or if you like it big :p a 608 model (8 shot)

My vote for the 686... had a GP-100, it works but the trigger is heavy/rough when compared to the S&W.

Seeing as how every shot it DA it's a pretty important feature.
