Anybody suggest a decent Revolver?

I am beginning to believe I am the only one here in love with a S&W M27. This is my Model 27-2, purchased used in 99% condition. I am sure it is the most accurate 357/38 I have ever shot. Please note the barrel length, I am sure this is one my handguns that is legal to own in Canada :D Regards, Richard:D

Nice model 27 Richard , looks like a 5" barrel and in a little bit better condition then the one I own . Great target gun and nice to shoot . Do you have any idea on the built date of yours?

niehawk55, I do not know what year my M27 was made but it has a 6" barrel. I have never owned a finer 357 mag revolver and I have owned a bunch of them. Regards, Richard :D

My understanding with the Model 27 is they were hand fitted/finished . I know mine is very smooth and you can tell it is a well put together with no sharp edges , etc . I think my 5" model is a bit more hard to come by . I'll have to check some S&W sites but I'm sure there has to be one that has info on dating the gun . IMHO I think a lot of the mod 27 was put into the 586/686 when those were introduced .

Hi KO,

If you do decide youwant a 6" Smith 686, have a long look at the one Gorky is selling here:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/viewtopic.php?t=95434

He is a great guy to deal with, and right here in your (our) province of Alberta.

Good luck in your search, Jeff/1911.

Yeah, I have seen Gorky's 686 posted, very nice."IF" I had all my ducks in a row I think I would go for it now. Unfortunatly :( , I do have to wait until closer to the end of the year to make my next purchase, but it's only a few months away, and I feel that it's never to early to start research. It took me at least that long to decide on my XD(I'm quite an indecisive individual  ).
Thanks again,
KO

I bought a 686-3 in mint condition today. The dealer said that it is better than a new model. Is it true ?

YES!

the -4 and earlier guns partly hand fitted, with no cast parts (all milled and forged) and also still had a hammer mounted firing pin. The new ones are frame mounted and can't be tuned by a trigger job as well as you need a more positive striked on the frame to fire the gun. Also, you get the stupid lawyer lock - yuck.

Ummm... the Model 27 is better fit and finished than the 686, but the 686 does not "suck" in comparisson. Two different guns build on different sized frames for different purpose. Apples and Oranges... I would feel equally well equipped with either at the range though.

As for Taurus - they are generally all S&W clones only cheaper and impossible to get parts for. Taurus customer service in Canada is virtually non-existant. S&W on the other hand is warrantied for life and serviced everywhere.

but the 686 does not "suck" in comparisson

Oh yes it does.

fit is worse. Finish is worse. Trigger is worse. Machine tooling marks all over the 686. Machine tooling marks all over the inside if the 686. Cheep ass trigger on the 686. If you wand a out of the box GREAT gun buy a pinned model 27. If you want a POS that has to take a trip to the gunsmith to work on the trigger and lock work buy a 686, it is YOUR MONEY after all. 8)

BTw i have more than 5 of each.

THE 686 SUX!
