Anyone *actually* killed a bear with a shotgun?

Thank goodness for commonsense in busg gun regs in BC.

in the BC hunting regs, they actually changed it (the two shot mag restriction) from a waterfowl-only thing to a general restriction, then changed it back last year.

cut/paste from the 2006 regs under Major regulation Changes for 2006-2007.....

Legal Hunting Methods - Where hunting big game with a shotgun is allowed, h u n t e rs are no longer required to limit the number of slugs in the magazine to 2.This applies to shotguns fi ring single projectiles only. Shotguns fi ring shot continue to be restricted. See page 17.

Now over-riding this, the CO's in BC as a working policy did not automatically deem you to be 'hunting' just because you had a shotgun in your possession, and therefore the two-shot mag restriction didn;t really apply to someone fishing/hiking/working

He also said a shotgun for bear defense is useless anyway, since you won't get a shot off. I asked what they use, he said an 8-shot shotgun. I asked him if it's plugged to two shots... he said: "No."

I would have had a field day with that idiot. :D

Also re: BC...

It should also be noted, that when you have a long-gun with a rifled bore, it is a rifle, not a shotgun, regardless of calibre. If I load my .30-'06 with shot doesn't make it a shotgun.

Anyone done the math?

I'm too lazy and/or busy to read through these 103 prior messages.

What do the numbers add up to?

How many people have actually killed a bear with a shotgun?

Then if you separate out the ones killed deliberately hunting with a shotgun compared to in self defense, how many here on this site have actually killed a bear in self-defense with a shotgun?

I have found Lyman 12g 1 1/4 oz. sabot slugs, cast from wheel weights, penetrate way more than Forester type slugs. They seem to have much more knockdown effect also. I have never recovered one from blackbears or muledeer. I have seen one that was recovered from a bull elk, it was a little bent and the skirt at the rear was closed somewhat.

I want to try some Lee drive key slugs, sometime, right now I am to busy repairing a couple of metal lathes.
