Hi. I have a 10-20x40 compact spotting scope(gold ring) that i have had for at least 10 years. I use it alot, as regular binos. So they are well used. I developed a small chip in the large lens. This happened no idea how but i doubt if its a manufacturer defect. Its almost in the center of the lens. I was under the impression that leupold has a "no matter what" warranty meaning i can drive a truck over my scope and they will replace it. So i was speaking with Korth Group and he says the warranty is for manufacturer defects. So they may charge me. This surprised me.
I dunno. Has leupold changed their policy or have i been dreaming for a long time?

As far as I know Leupold's warranty has ALWAYS been limited to manufacturers defects only. You've been dreaming.

Vortex and others offer 'no matter what' warranties cause they're trying to get their foot in the door with a market that's dominated by big guys (Leupold and others). So the VIP warranty is sort of a "selling point" to convince people to buy Vortex over Leupold. Leupold doesn't need that crutch.

While trying to remove a stuck alumina cover, I "accidentally " unscrewed the whole front objective....and crushed it a bit.....apparently vice grips aren't the right tool for that job...anyway, I called, explained, they told me to send it in and they'll see what they can do. 10 working days later I had my scope back in looking brand new, repurged, new lens and all. The best part.... no charge...

Also, overtorqued a PRW ring and snapped the small piece between the 2 holes. Called again, they said send it back, couple weeks later a new set was sitting in the mailbox.

My neighbor also sent in a pair of really old binos and they refurbed them for free.

Send the scope in and tell them you dropped it and anything they can do to fix it would be greatly appreciated and you will be happy to pay the costs. I think you will find it will come back looking like new at no cost to you.
I damaged one of mine, sent it back to Korth with a similar letter, it was repaired at N/C. There very good, as long as you don't give them any grief along the way.

Why should a manufacturer replace a product that was damaged by you??? It is not a reasonable expectation. Warranty is for defects that were not discovered during the manufacturing process or premature failure due to a defect that was not discoverable until it is used. Nothing more.

Leupold is more judicious on what they repair as too many have taken advantage of their awesome over and above replacement service and warranty. It's unbelievable that folks expect a company to compensate them for their own neglect.

Leupold customer service is un matched. Since they are binocs call up the US HQ and see what they say( you can send binocs across the boarder no issue) I did just that and recieved a brand new pair of the newest model of Mojave bx3's. Worth a shot i say. Good luck.

Personally I would rather have more of the purchase price of an optic spent by the manufacturer on optical and mechanical quality than a 'no fault/no exception warranty' that favours some of my slippery fingered friends....just my opinion

Just sent in my older Vari x III because it was foggy on the last coyote I pointed it at. Sent it in for inspection. Been over 2 weeks and haven't heard anything. Will keep you posted

Chips don't develope by them self .
Except responsibility .
Send the scope in for repair .
If they send you the bill pay it .
It costs money to be ......

Really? I happen to know the guys very well at the Sail store in the west island. They tried mounting a Bushnell 4200 and realized that they could not move the crosshairs .long story short , they sent it in to Bushnell and I got a 6500 for a replacement and it took only 7 days. Figured that Leupold would be the same or close to the same turnaround time. You are right about Sail in general. I only deal with the west island store for that reason
