Anyone ever scoped a Ross?

Fellows, I've got a sporterized (bbl cut, original sights gone, wood cut etc) Ross in .303 British that cycles and shoots great, except the sights that were installed by whoever sporterized it, well, they basically suck. I've got a few other open sighted rifles for short range truck gun duty and I really don't need another, so I'm thinking of scoping it, rather than installing fancier sights. It looks like a simple D&T would do the job, but as I've never seen a scoped Ross, I started to wonder if there's something I'm missing.

So, any reason not to D&T this non-restorable sportered Ross?

If the barrel was cut, then you're not losing a thing.
Find a gunsmith who can envision where to install the bases and go for it.

Claven just installed a scope on an M10 .280, although it was already D&T'd.

If you have a bridge for the rear sight, you could remove the sight and use that as the location for the rear base, on the receiver ring or barrel for the front one.

I tend to agree with Cantom (yes, generally speaking, but also specifically in this case) :D

To really refurb this one, you'd need to find a spare Ross barrel. I wonder if that exists in this space-time dimension.

Or, a good Ross with a good barrel but a damaged receiver, so you could use your intact receiver. Hmm, that's also really likely. So...

Interesting ... :)

I've been thinking about finding an old early 1903 Springfield, or an old Ross that wouldn't have it's collector value suffer much if I had it "drilled and tapped" for this? :D :D :D ;)

I have one with a one piece mount, it came this way and is in 6.5/303 imp epps. I believe this gun was made by the Epps shop in the 1958 when it was in Clinton

Oh boy oh boy! You actually have that scope sight?
I once sent a Ross full-length action and barrel to a member who had the complete wood and fittings so he could restore it to full status.
I should have traded him the wood instead. Today, I would have a great complete Ross with a good barrel to send you... :(
Oh, another time maybe.
PP.

I have a target ross... or at least it was made a target gun. Anyways, they made a sight bridge out of some thick sheet metal cut to fit the action, and mount on the same screw holes. Looks bubba but is really well done. If you have some basic metal working skills you could make a very strong and good looking rear base for your scope if you needed to.

I've scoped a Ross recently. Did it with Weaver bases. D+T two holes in the front, one in the rear. IIRC carbide bits were needed. Milled a small step in the rear base to match the step in the rear bridge. Rear sight tension spring was removed to accomodate rear base, however, it can be re-installed to facilitate later use with original irons.
