I suspect many people have no idea what 7mm is in standard measure...kind of like the 325WSM that was really an 8mm but 325 doesn't equal 8mm....you know....lol
And just a bit of an aside is it just me or is 30 cal going out of fashion a bit here, all these new cartridges and I think the last new 30 was quite a while back. I think we're talking Ruger's 30 RCM...

Yes, cause none of them with the metric designation were very successful. Laughing!!
Americans are very slow or unwilling to embrace anything new with an "mm" behind it. It keeps marketing departments up nights trying to name these things. Name is more important than function for the most part. It's no accident Nosler called these a 26 and 28.
So that explains why the 7 "MM" Remington Magnum was such a flop. I can see why they would want to distance themselves from that debacle.
I wasn't aware the 7mm RM was a new cartridge.
