Anyone have a Stalking rifle to flaunt?

While I agree with what you're saying basically , the term , "stalking " , in the UK , where I grew up , means hunting . No one in the UK refers to any rifle they use for deer as a hunting rifle . A good friend of mine , who lives in the UK and is a CGN member , has a 14 lb , vertical pistol grip , aluminum framed bolt action rifle with a high power magnification variable scope on it . It's his Fallow Deer Stalking rifle . Hunting is something you do on horse back , just saying .

Couldn't agree more. Lots of us though, sure love the visual art and nice handling that can be found in the old school stalking rifles. Naturally, budgets dictate choice for many. ;)

The visual art and nice handling of the Mosin Nagant / K 98 makes great stalking rifles. Just cut down the barrel, JB weld a couple of hideous sights in place and add some zebra wood. There you go - expertly crafted.

Naaa, just tweek 'em a tad & work up a load that shoots tight, and yer good to go.

I used my 91/30 more as a sit & wait rifle in a blind than as a stalker. Tight shooter with hardcast 180 gr boolits.

?? If you require clarification or further definition of some sort, contact 'them'.
No... but a Google sample is the single largest composite of what the general public (at least those online) believe an object is when tagged with whatever terminology they choose to use when describing it... when searching the term "stalking rifle" it is overwhelming clear what the vast majority believe that is and what it looks like and ergo its handling characteristics and the history behind it. Just because a few snowflakes what to shake things up and redefine the world to suit their preferences, doesn't mean the rest of us have to go quietly along... I get that my aging generation didn't grow up playing World of War Craft and Grand Theft Auto, but we don't have to silently acquiesce.

I thought I was being clear, but I guess I actually have to post the meaning for some

I don't care about what opinion you can drum up on a Google search.

Strange how others post their opinion on this forum and if not taken as an absolute take issue with others opinions as if they are wrong. An opinion is an opinion, there is no right or wrong.

The old "one rule for thee, not for me" adage comes to mind when it comes to certain topics of discussion

There's the key perhaps, you thought. As I recall, in your post #232, YOU questioned as to if google was a legit qualifier. If you don't agree with THEIR definition/clarification, give them a shout.

Google is a search engine, it gives no definition. The person who suggested Google is nearly trying to base their opinion off of others found via said search engine. It is still just an opinion.

I remember you sir... didn't you post about not daring to euthanize a mortally wounded deer... because doing 'the right thing' might get you in trouble?
Someone retorted that was pretty much the definition of a coward?
Best burn I've EVER seen on here.
Your rules... you can keep them..
This thread will get locked.
But maybe HC or someone can make it a sticker...too many beautiful retro stalking rifles to lose them all

You can break all the laws you want, calling people a coward because they will not follow your suggestion blindly?

Posting on the internet is funny when you caution people as to the actual laws and possible legal ramifications of ones actions for doing what is being suggested online by others.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say someone posted it was the right thing to do on the internet to absolve themselves of any responsibility for their own actions I would be a rich man.

"Stalk" is something you do, so when someone says they were out "stalking" for a deer, moose, elk, boar, etc. The rifle being carried becomes a "stalking rifle"

The only time a rifle on its own is a "stalking rifle" would be in the event of a name given to it by the manufacturer, like Browning has a "stainless stalker"

Now that I think about it, a pretty, little five pound, break action single-shot 25-35 would make a nice stalking rifle, wouldn't it?

Uh huh..... Hmmmmm....

Ted

A single shot, break action, side hammer, double set trigger with underlugs and single Greener crossbolt, in 25-35, 25 inch barrel, with 14.5 LOP, .5 cast, 1/8 cant, DOC 1, DOH 2, butt depth 4 5/8, Tessier or Oregon Walnut, no cheekpiece, integrated quarter rib with two leaf express sights, unbanded front sight, barrel mounted sling, and medium powered vintage scope...to be precise!

Pretty close. Rust blued, three cartridge trap with name engraved, leather covered butt pad to keep it from sliding off one's shouder, and.... the fixed sight regulated for 117 gr cast RN bullets with 20 gr of 3031, the hinged one for 100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips ahead of 35 gr of the same.

What finish and checkering pattern on the wood?

Maybe just a 219 Savage will work?

Not sure about the 25-35 .... but the rest I like a lot!!

Didn't even consider the trap. I wonder if it'd shift the balance around a bit? I'd keep a metal butt plate, widow's peak; not sure about the load regulation but probably a bit on the heavier bullet, lighter construction, like the old Imperial 6.5 140 gr round nose soft point, both sights regulated for same.

A 219 may have to do...

Let's all settle down a bit. Never thought posting my "little" 9.3X57 stalking rifle for sale last week would have started all this. Maybe I should have just called it a rifle.

Have a slice of bread and relax, while we think about this.
