I am looking to sell a Ruger No. 1 that I'm not using ... and recent proposed changes to C-21 indicate that it might be hard to get good $$ for this rifle in Canada. I propose to use an Export service (Irungun, etc) to export the rifle to the US, and then have it shipped to an auction site.
I wonder if anyone has had direct experience with doing this (export + auction), and if there are any pitfalls I should be aware of?
Note: I'm hoping for people to respond who might have direct experience with export + auction. I know that it's tempting to grumble about C-21 and the illogic of prohibiting a single-shot rifle, but that won't help with my question. I'm not using this rifle for a number of reasons (a very heavy McLennan barrel makes it impractical for hunting). I'm in the market for something more suitable for hiking long distances while hunting. I would sell the rifle in the absence of the C-21 change; the proposed amendment simply accelerates this process.
thank you,
Stephen
