Yes and its good to support the Government of BC with the sales tax.....:runaway:

surgeon please

I held a surgeon action and quite frantly for the money, I'd buy a Nesika. I don't see what the big deal is this Surgeon. I know a guy that brings them in and I think he's already been mentioned but honestly, for the money I wouldn't buy one unless you're only after the name. The bolt is sloppy in the action because it's sammy spec which is only natural but if you want a single shot action, and you're right handed, definitely go oppotite port then right bolt and go Nesika because of the tolerances. You'd have to confirm price but they are so close that it's worth looking into. I hope my honesty has made you think about an alternative to draining your wallet. If the configuration of a right bolt right port is fine with you, go Remington 700 because seriously you can't tell the difference in quality. The surgeon is cast, big deal. They rave about strutural ridgitity but if you're going for a 308cal action, do you really think it's a factor?? Spend your money on something better like optics or a Rock Creek barrel if you're looking for a place to drop coin.

I've already sunk 20k into precision rifles... and I still like the Surgeon. The action has an integral recoil lug with an identical footprint to the M700, longer tennon threads, and all replacement parts are just good old M700 bits. On top of that, the integral rail is a very smart addition for my kind of shooting. Plus, I'm a field shooter and hunter, I'm not after a bench rest action. I really like the M700, and have built a half dozen rigs on them, and the Surgeon continues everything I like about the M700 and makes it better. By my judgement it fits my purposes perfectly, I also really like the fact I can fix anything that breaks with parts a local small town gun shop will have in stock.

The only other action I've looked at in depth is the Barnard as I really like the value and trigger they offer, but decided I'm better off with the Surgeon for my purposes.

You betcha!! :D

Not only is he a great guy, but his bottom metal is worth a look as well.

I'm using it in my 308 build!

ARDENT, if your not dropping the Surgeon into an AICS, take a look at Ed's bottom metal.

Ya I've been contemplating his setup for awhile, goofy as it is mostly out of a wish to support the home team so to speak. Have to decide what chassis I'm going to use for this rifle though, all I know as of right now is I want a fast 6.5.

Have you looked at a 260 Ackley Improved? Not as much of a barrel burner as something like a 6.5-284, and its real fast!

Hard to beat the BC of 6.5 rounds.

Sounds like your going to build a sweet rig! Good luck.

The newest version of Ed's Bottom Metal is absolutely bomb proof! Build like a tank.

Some clarification:

The Surgeon ......

can be orderd with tighter tolerances.

has an Integral rail which removes one additional variable and I believe PGW offered the feature at one time and may still offer it. Along with increased strength and weight.

has an integral recoil lug which removes another variable.

"Cast" Not sure where you made that conclusion, but I would be interested in hearing where and how you came to this conclusion.

Now one thing that Nesika and Surgeon share is the one piece bolt - machined from a solid piece of steel.

The Rem. 700 was the pilot for many custom actions to improve on. When you see the pile of parts of the Rem 700 verses the Surgeon....

GLOCK-A- MANIAC,

Where do you get your facts from ? your Bias AND glaring lack of product knowledge has become apparent so let me give you some quick facts before I have to go into Vancouver- I look forward to a greater discourse when I return .:D

1) Surgeon actions are machined from a BILLET and NOT cast .....NOT A CASTING as you state
2) Surgeon actions are held to within.0002 (2 ten thou) of runout With EDM cut raceways
3) bolt is sammi spec ......WHAT....... I have herd of sammi Chambers not bolts :confused:The tolerance of the bolt are held to within .007 for the first 3/4 of the action then are reduced to .004-.002 per side for the last portion of bolt travel and held to a tighter tolerance for the single shot versions =.002 =.001 per side
4) YOU CANT TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN QUALITY BETWEEN A Surgeon and a Remington.......OK did you really handle a Surgeon or ? Because the difference is glaringly apparent
5) Structural Rigidity You cant be serious when you say that rigidity in an action is not a factor .308 or otherwise
- Glock-A-Maniac your opinion /review is baseless at best NO foundation of fact just personal bias towards a product you have on hand and or own or sell , And further I doubt You have compared/inspected A Surgeon action in detail
if you did you would notice A one piece bolt not a silver soldered bolt (Remington). an integral recoil lug a full 1/4 " thick a longer Barrel tenon, EDM Cut raceways ,anti jam rail in raceways, Integral picitinny scope base I have never seen a Remington or A Nesika Bay for that matter with any of the above listed features Glock -a-Maniac Please take the time to Handel a surgeon and the difference will be come apparent to you as well

Ardent... I am sorry I have not replied sooner to this thread but have been somewhat distracted with other projects . I would be happy to help you with any question and or arranging the acquisition of an action Please feel free to contact me directly and we can discus your needs.

Thanks Ed, Mick McPhee raves about them and says they're the only custom action he'd spend money on. Since Mick is a gunsmith and barrel-maker, and custom gun builder, I figure he knows what he's talking about. I just hope to Jeebas that I don't have to go shopping for Nesika parts if one of mine fails.
