With the lack of USA hunters, I was thinking it might be a good time to get a deal with an outfitter in NW Ontario. Not to take a Hugh advantage of the trouble facing them, but get a deal. Contacted a few and the answer was the price isi what it is. I politely asked if they would rather have a customer at a lesser rate to provide some $$, and was brushed off. Not looking for a huge discount but just figured you know a bird in hand ...
Anyone know any outfitters who want to cater to resident hunters at a reasonable price

Outfitters get allotted resident and non resident tags for their area I believe. Not that easy to just switch them all over to resident tags, so the few resident tags they have actually need to pay more to cover the losses since the majority of business an outfitter does is normally non resident

Business's do this all the time.
Like this Sunday when all the Halloween candy goes on sale....

He wasnt asking for a free hunt.

I'm aware. It's happening all over in the Canadian cat skiing and heli ski operations right now. Many are offering discounts to Canadians to fill spaces that would be normally filled with Europeans or Americans. Canadians are notoriously cheap when it comes to winter holidays (maybe because we live it daily). Others are just not operating this winter at all because they will not be able to cover the expenses of running. My guess is many guiding outfits are the same?

I am in BC and we need species tags for deer. Where are you that no species tags are required?

We only have one species of deer here NW Ontario, white tail. When you buy a deer tag over the counter it allows you one antlered deer. When you hunt with a outfitter he just sells you a deer licience at the normal government rate. Your money is paying for the outfitters guiding services, accommodations and meals etc. Moose hunting here is a different ball game all together.

The way I look at it is that if you give a discount you will make some money. Not as much as you want but some.

The upside is you might get a repeat client who might bring some buddies back with him next year

By the time this latest flu bug is over, and the gov't "allows" us to get back to normal,

we'll all be doing good if we can put food on the table, and pay rent.

I have hunted WT deer in Ont and a couple of US states since 1980 and I have yet to see a deer that would even be close to 150.

I wouldn't pay $3500 USD either, but I would like to get 1 decent size buck some time.
However around here that is going to be unlikely.

Last year i shot the biggest body WT deer I have ever shot and it was a big deer, but the rack was nothing to write home about
