Anyone own a Mossberg 500 J.I.C (Just in Case) shotgun? Unboxing Pics Post #39

I was caught with need, and without gun when I was travelling through Edmonton. So I found milarm asked for a beargun. The guy walked over and grabbed a field mossberg 500 with a pgo, a wood forend and a dopey gold trigger. $225 brand new! Went out and bought a fishing pole case that didn't work, without an operation. So I traded that for an uncle Mikes tac rifle bag $25! Then I bought a walnut youths stock ($10)that was beat, chopped er into a fishtail grip. Who hoo. Homemade JIC. Is it wrong to love a inexpensive shotgun this much?

What year could you buy a new Mossberg 500 Field for $225?

If you have a link, please post it as I'd buy one and do the same thing just for sh!ts and giggles. You got pics of your homemade J.I.C? I'd like to see what you did.

They are good looking shotties , but I prefer the extended mag tube on a defence shotgun for the extra couple of shots....plus to be honest , even though I have a pistol grip on one of my Win. 1300s , it would certainly not be my go to gun in a real emergency . I use mine on the ATVs because they are compact with the pistol grip , but I find it puts the shooter at a real disadvantage in regards to control , and sight wise , without having a full stock......but thats just me.... ENJOY the new purchase...

ya it could do in a pinch, but the stock really helps. I got a 14 inch mossberg 590A1 coming for such things as the bush.

I have wood furniture I'm going to refinish and install. That was my intention when I bought this shotgun... already have a PGO 500, with the much better Hogue grip/forend combo. Believe it or not, the Hogue set makes it much more comfortable.

Also a 7+1 J.I.C model available, by the way. I posted it in this thread somewhere.

They do have that model:

Yes, but the longer tube mag would mean you can't fit these new 10-shot drum mags!
So the 5-6+1 means you CAN...

Of course with the drum mag, you're gonna need a bigger tube!

Don't really want the drum mag to tell you the truth. The tube isn't small, it's 6" in diameter.

Here's the 7+1 J.I.C and a girl describing it:

I have 2 shotguns. A Stevens 320 which is a Winchester 1300 clone, and a Maverick 88 which is a less costly Mossberg 500. Both really good shotguns for the low price. Only $200 - $230 each. If I had to pick one in a Chinese invasion though I would pick the Maverick. Hopefully that will never happen.

I said milarm.

500 Field is $354 there, $5 less than I paid for my J.I.C.

Did you buy a new Moss 500 Field for $225 in 2002? It's 2014.

13-3129 Mossberg 500 Field New 50104 SG NR $354.00

Wow you're a snowbally little prick, aren't you? You must be a real PITA at your Oprah book club.

No need for that ^. I wanted to see the link where I could buy that incredibly cheap Mossberg 500 and see pics of the J.I.C you created...

Can't buy a Mossberg 500 Field for $225 presently, so it makes my J.I.C not too bad a deal after all, with the tube - contrary to your implication in your 1st post.

I really like the idea of the JIC. I always thought that it would be better with some kind of folding stock that would still fit in the tube. Has anyone done this?

I think the jic is in pistol grip form for quick deployment.
As soon as you grab that grip and the muzzle passes out the end of the tube, its good to go.
No bringing a stock up into your shoulder or aiming which gives the predator/threat additional seconds to advance on you.

Unsure if there is a viable option for a folding stock for Moss 500. I've seen a couple, but none that I see good reviews for. The Hogue pistol grip is much better than the factory PG, that I can attest to. Have never tried a folding stock other than on a VZ58 and I didn't really care for it.

Good question ^. Don't know the answer.

Folder- Butler Creek (may not fit in the tube):

ATI top folder (definitely won't fit):

I have a folding stock and pistol grip on a 870 tactical shottie that I own , it works great and gives the option of using the stock , or just the pistol grip....I believe the folding stock was made by Bultler Creek....no complaints so far....
