Anyone received the Walther PDP yet? Thoughts?

The original PDP that entered Canada back in October has over 15K through it without cleaning, but has had lube added from time to time.
No malfunctions or parts breakage yet.
Walther Germany has done some 20K endurance testing without failure.

It is the new standard for Combat handguns.

Thanks Rich you are always a great source for info.

I've been shooting my Sig X5 X series and PPQ's in NRA competition and doing very well. Funny thing a few years back suddenly at the NPSC I started seeing a whole bunch of Walther PPQ's in the hands of the guys serious about winning the Production classifications. The word got around very quietly and suddenly they were popping up in the hands of the Agency that brings home nearly all the trophies. Almost like a secret, they didn't want anyone to know. This did not surprise me as my PPQ Q4 Tac was used (not by me damm it) to set the NRA national record. I hate it when someone shoots my own guns better than me....
What really annoyed me was how a PPQ could nearly match the accuracy of my Sig Classic X5's, but for about 1/4 of the price. They just perform well and more importantly they are easy to shoot well with the combination of grip, barrel and trigger. Many guns have been put in a machine rest and group fine....but there is a difference in ease of performance in the human hand. *That is what Walther has mastered with the PPQ / PDP* The results on paper don't lie.

Fast forward to the PDP, simply put, an improved PPQ, better grip, slide (for duty purposes), deep optic cut and a slightly better trigger. This gun is simply the best Polymer Production Duty gun in existence. It's like they went to users and asked them what they wanted, how to improve the PPQ and then actually listened.

Rich you should get a part time job as a Walther sales rep. Now I am looking at the PPQ Q4 Tac as well to add to my Walther collection.

Don't care about the name or brand, just performance. Don't really care who uses it....often Organizations blindly follow what others do with out examining why...In the military often supply and access to parts plays a big role, with your own Country manufacturing it is more stable and safe to access, especially in time of conflict.

PS: Walther PDP's are Tennifer treated.....no longer done by another brand.

Mecgar make the PDP mags. They also make the mags for the Canik TP9 which have functioned perfectly for me in the PDP. I used them on one weekend course and a bunch of range days, probably 1000 rnds with no issues at all.

Nobody has smaller hands than I do. The HK P30L feels like it was made just for me.

haha small hands gang represent!

Cool, okay I'm hearing fantastic things about the P30L. Would you put it above a FN 509 and the PDP? I want one of those and don't have the opportunity to hold one or shoot one before I buy. So it's all down to strangers on the internet, as nature intended.

If you are looking for a Competition pistol for IDPA SSP, ESP or CCP Divisions you need not look any further than the Walther PPQ/PDP line of pistols.

I had my 'smith cut the barrel on my PPQ Navy to 106MM to get under the 4.25" maximum length requirement for CCP Division. The gun shoots like a laser, has a nice trigger pull of 5.6lbs and a 1/10th " reset just as advertised. The same can be said for my M2 Five inch and 5" Match wearing an Optic.

For me the PDP does not offer anything more than my PPQ offers. The gun would be of interest if I was involved in either the military or LEO roles but any chance of that happening occurred a vary long time ago.

Both of Walther's offerings are well designed, well made, dead nuts reliable and extremely accurate. We all have our favourites and for what I use my handguns for the Walther line of striker fired pistols meets my needs. Others likely have different favourites and different needs. Which is a good thing for the gun industry and marriage councilors.

Take Care

Bob

PDP owners, when you ordered the optic plate using the enclosed sheet that came with the pistol? did that work? or were there other instructions to follow?. I used the sheet and Walther USA said they don't ship outside the US and to contact Germany? is that the case? Is there a separate POC to get the optic plate?

I ordered mine through the online ordering web page. Came from Gravel in a few days.

Sure I did the same thing, however I got an email from a guy @ Walther USA, saying they don't ship to Canada? I used the same form that your link provided. weird?

You would need to contact Walther Germany, as we are the US branch and only handle dealers/distributors in the US and can’t ship outside of the US. You can contact them here: https://www.carl-walther.com/defense/company/contact

That's bizarre. I would suggest trying two things.

Reply to Mr. Farrell and ask him to forward your plate order to Gravel Agency in Canada. Failing that you could contact Gravel direct and ask them how to order the plate.

I really like my PDP but Walther's customer service sure leaves room for improvement.
