Saskatchewan wildlife officials are hunting for three men who videotaped themselves laughing and cheering while killing ducks and then posted the video on YouTube.

"It's just disgusting," said Darrell Crabbe, executive director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.

In the video, one man is seen shooting ducks on a small pond with an air gun. The video then cuts to two men shooting ducks with a .22 rifle.

Duck hunting season doesn't begin until September.

Crabbe said the three men could be charged with careless use of a firearm as well as poaching and face fines up to $10,000 each.

From the video authorities know the make of the vehicle the men used and their first names. They also have clear pictures of each of their faces.

Crabbe said it's likely the video was made in southwestern Saskatchewan or southeastern Alberta.

"I wouldn't doubt if these guys have a knock at their door within a week," he said.

"In Saskatchewan we have a dedicated prosecutor who will go after them hard and heavy."

Camera-loving duck killers hunted

After posting video of themselves showing off their shooting skills on YouTube, three men with a penchant for killing ducks are being hunted by the law.

"It's just disgusting," said Darrell Crabbe, executive director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.

In the 4:40-long video -- which was first uploaded Thursday before it was taken down then re-posted by someone else -- the driver of a Hyundai Tiburon is seen shooting ducks on a small pond with an air gun before it cuts to two men standing outside the car, this time armed with a .22 rifle.

While their aim isn't always accurate, the pair manages to hit several ducks -- laughing and cheering each time -- while a third man films.

Based on the background and lack of a front licence plate, Crabbe said it's likely the video was made in southwestern Saskatchewan or southeastern Alberta.

"There's a field of canola there and we just don't have that many places that grow that kind of canola," he said.

"It's turning so it narrows it down."

One man is referred to as Dave in the video, while the other is called Jer. Both white and appearing to be in their 20s, the driver is seen wearing a grey shirt and orange shorts, while the second man is wearing a red shirt and dark pants.

The videographer also turns the camera toward himself at one point, revealing he's wearing a black hat and has a goatee.

"The enforcement guys are going through the whole video with the forensic guys," he said.

"We got a couple pictures that are just crystal clear so we're going to post those and send them through our e-mail contacts, which is about 4,000 people in Saskatchewan.

"I wouldn't doubt if these guys have a knock at their door within a week."

With no ducks in season in Canada until Sept. 1, Crabbe said the trio could be facing charges ranging from careless use of a firearm to poaching

Email sent to the writer of the yahoo article:

Thank you for your article highlighting the dispicable actions of the three individuals in the online video that came to light this week. Hopefully I must however take exception to the title referring to these CRIMINALS as hunters. Hunting is a completely lawful activity; what these three did was nothing short of poaching, as well as breaking a number of firearms related laws and regulations.
It seems that when disgusting events like this are covered by the media, the perpetrators are invariably called hunters by the writer and/or editors of the article. This careless misuse of nomenclature smears lawful hunters everywhere; the distinction between hunters and poachersi s an important one... please take care to clarify!

Silverado this is why I questioned the moving of this thread to the "Hunting" section...totally inappropriate IMO.

A few other posters were also upset about the location of this thread...and nothing was done about it.

It should have stayed in the "Discussions & Alerts" section.

I contacted Global News about it but they aren't very interested in running the story unless Conservation or Wildlife Federation holds a "press conference".

+2 since Ive already mentioned this but I'll mention it again! These guys were NOT hunting, they were slaughtering wildlife. They weren't hunting out of season for food or trophies, they simply went around killing things. It's a bad light on hunters by having it in this section.

Likely too stupid to be scared... after all they videotaped themselves committing offenses against wildlife and posted this material on the world wide web! Got to be firing on only a couple cylinders!

No doubt, they probably don't even realize anyone is after them! That's why I tried contacting Global news and figure to try and get it out on TV. Play parts of the video and see if anyone recognizes these fools.

The more press this gets, the harder the Judge will be. + Press exposure= + setting of example = + force the book gets hurled at them.
