Anyone rUn strictly iron sights on their AR

Those people saying they want irons for shtf and KISS.

Um.... how do you shoot in the dark?
Do you not run buis and quick detach mounts?

What the heck is the negative of a solid optic like an acog or an elcan with BUIS???? A little more weight is all the negative I see.

Well guess you can get batteries in the mountains eh?

Guess electronics will last forever eh?

Guess rail mounted optics are far tougher than protected iron sights eh?

Guess your know SHTF scenarious also mean that there is a 711 close by, right.

KISS principal?

Ever ask yourself a C9 has iron sights as well?

So yes KISS is best for firearms, even my ugly bolt action truck gun has irons, which are really accurate and enjoyable to use, along with QD scope mounts.

All my guns have irons, slug gun, bolt gun, pistols, flat top, but if I had to only have one it would be my old school CAR15 with her irons, as she is easy and accurate to shoot.

After trying dozens of uppers I settled on one of those DA556 SP1 colones with the fixed carry handle. Irons are extremely accurate if you know how to use them, it was always very satisfying.

I run strictly irons , I like it , am I a wierdo because everyone I see at the range has an optic , is there anyone else out there like me?

Thats all I've ever shot is iron sights on AR. Some of the optics are ok, but if they fail or drop the zero you have a rifle that will not shoot for you. I stay away from the DOT type optics because they eat batteries, don't last long in the cold, and when the rifle is put away in the safe for a few months the batteries are usually toast. You also never know when they are going to fail. I learned to shoot well with open sights and I don't need to take 500 yards shots with an AR. Open sights have never failed me in 40 years.

Batteries? ACOG

And even if I did run my elcan out of batteries it is still far more useful without illumination than a set of irons

Are you telling me you would rather have your CAR 15 with iron sights instead of an acog with troy buis??

Be serious here,

I agree for fun, I love iron sights

But there is a reason those who need it run optics. (I do it for recreation)

Nice rifle BTW

I love the SP1 style.

The tritium fsp has always fascinated me and I've never tried them?
Have you? How do you like them?

I still stand by what I said

SHTF ACOG/ELCAN with quality BUIS and FSB > Irons only, for so many reasons

no one can argue that I don't like iron sights

Ran iron sights for years and carried the 3x and 4x colt scopes in a container just in case. Then we couldn't take
them out in the bush anymore. Was a good combination for years

Was speaking to lasers, lights, red dots, for batteries.

I did try an Elcan on a C7 but did better with irons on a C8 actually. For me I just have used irons on ARs since the lates 70s, so it's just more instinctive for me. Now I have always taught my kids the basics of irons and while all their guns run optics accept for the STG44/22, I just know they can throw my CAR15 in a river, in a trunk, behind the seats in the truck, anywhere, and it will hit where it always has.

Do love the Canadian optics, don't like the exposed area for adjustments, just want it simple, and not just something else to cause a shooting issue.

Guess having a bone stock SKS and being able to hit what I want while others were constantly making adjustments and excuses for their optics on a SKS (but ARs were made for optics), made me biased, but I see where you are coming from as optics really help shooters.

And thanks for the rifle comment, we are love shooting it. Funny thing was when I made the kids use the irons on the bolt action thay seemed to have more fun shooting clays stuck in the back stop at 100 yards. :)

I get better accuracy at 100 yards with my irons vs. my aimpoint micro.

However with my aging eyes my current choice is either a 1.5 or 3x ACOG
