Anyone shoot rimfire in their basement?

I don't even HAVE a basement ... That being said, I used to shoot my pellet rifles a LOT in the garage as a kid, since I couldn't go outside with them anymore without some neighbor calling the cops.
I would imagine there is an interesting story burried somewhere in there.

Nothing really spectacular, I used to get together with my friends when I was 8-10 and we'd go in one of the kid's backyard and blast away, I had a stack of hay bales as a backstop, A friend of mine who was older had a bow and him and his dad made a proper target for it, another kid just taped a cardboard box upside down so the side of his garage so the pellets would go in but they wouldn't bounce out. Anyways, times passed and I must have been around 14 and I heard that my friend had gotten in trouble with his pellet guns.

Apparently he was plinking away in the backyard when an SQ car (Quebec provicial police) pulled up and started yelling at him (Imagine a grown up cop yelling at like a fairly quiet 12 year old kid), wanted to take his bb gun away, said he wasn't old enough to have that, it's a firearm and it's against the law to fire rifles in town etc... His dad came out of the house, argued with the cop and the kid got to keep his gun, but was told that if he was seen with it outside again they would take it away. First thing he did was call all of us and tell us.

We never did find out if the cop just "happened" to be patrolling a quiet street in a small town where a cop car shows up once a year, maybe, and kids get so excited about it that they all come running outside to watch it, it practically turns into a parade ... Or if it was that old lady he had as a neighbor that would call his dad everytime he went across her yard on his way back from school instead of walking around the block. We did meet up in each other's garage for a while after that, hiding our guns by putting them in fishing pole cases and such, but it just wasn't the same and pretty soon our guns all went silent. It was close to 10 years before I pulled a trigger again, and as it turns out it was in a buddy's basement with his dad supervising, but that story will have to be for another time .... ;-P

I don't think we need one...we're into real guns.:D
I've got one of these and it's as good or better than many rimfire rifles. It will shoot pellets @ 1250fps. It ain't pretty, but it is accurate.;)

As much as we CAN shoot safely in our basements, the fact remains it is still ILLEGAL to discharge a firearm where it is not legal to do so like in a town or city.

So if you live on the farm, you could for sure set up a safe indoor .22 range with bullet traps, fans, etc.

But if you live in the city/town, are you willing to risk the knock on the door which gets you in a heap of legal ####e? Possibly a firearms prohibition? It just ain't worth it.

My "original" pellet gun (the one I used to shoot as a kid and learned on, dad taught me when I was 6) is a czechoslovikian "Liberty" (that's what's written on top of the receiver anyways. It's severely beat up, muzzle could use some re-crowning, rear sight is a little bent, spring is pretty much shot, probably need a new gas seal too, but I wouldn't give it up for the world. My ex mother in law redid the stock which was in a pretty sad state, the closet the rifle had been sitting in had been flooded thanks to the water heater conking out, she is just the most talented wood worker i've ever known, the thing looks new now, except for one large dent that I asked her to keep intact, as I remember how it happened. Also have a Chinese "arrow" (again, it's all there is on the receiver) that would also need some work, but I don't know of anyone that I would trust with such heirlooms ....

It looks a lot more expensive than my beloved($60) Cooey.:) And it also qualifies as a firearm(over 500fps).
The point was that there are air powered guns that are 'real'.:D

I would love to do it too but it's not worth risking my firearms over. I don't think anyone especialy the police would understand

GIVE ME MORE LEAD! :D
Really, you can have mine. The lead level in my last blood test was more than twice the normal level. I'm now on chelation therapy. I prefer root canal surgery. And I don't shoot indoors. Shooting in your basement ( unless it is an approved indoor range) should be reserved for AP only. DO NOT DO IT!!!

I do NOT recommend this within any city under any circumstances. If you live on a farm, or way ot in the boonies, then knock your self out. Otherwise, if ANYTHING happens or a neighbour gets freaked out, you could ruin things for a lot of other gun nuts in this 'safety paranoid' culture.

That said, I remember some good times in my parents unfinished concrete-walled basement. 177's leave nice welts. Riccochet city :)

Me and my brother used to wad up wet toilet paper and shoot each other with the old .177's. Hurt like hell, wasn't good for the rifle, but sure was fun:)

trust me i have been temtped many many times but the thought that i could lose my guns over a few minutes of plinking in my basement or my 2 little one could be harmed by the lead has managed to keep me from doing it show i spend the 0 min and go for a drive outta the city and find the nearest piece of crwon land and have at er
i suggest you dont for both the legal implications and the health risks imposed

Even with CB caps which have little or no powder, there is lead in the primer compounds.

Don't contaminate your living space with lead.

Look at what it did to the Roman empire!

The CB is what coon hunters use to knock a coon out of the tree at about 3 in the morning without getting the farmer out of bed !

It is about as loud as a pellet gun(or slapping your two hands together)You can shoot soda cans with a phone book backstop!

Knowbody would ever know!!!
