Anyone shoot thier new Tariq yet?

I dont think I would buy a Gun that could have kill people , Bad Karma. Specially for all the wrong reasons

well then you wont have any problems buying these then. Remember, they were used by the Iraqi army. Never fired and only dropped once. I think Ill have to make some calls tomorrow about getting one of these. A taurus for this price is also a good option.

Actually, given that the Republican Guard was used extensively against the Kurdish population and that the Internal Special Police were used to keep the Shiite population in check (the old fashioned way, by making select individuals disappear) these pistols are likely to have seen more action than most western surplus pistols. As far as avoiding firearms that may have been used to kill people, forget anything from either world war, any police surplus, especially avoid anything Soviet like the Tokarev (Stalin killed 30 million of his own people before the Second World War started) probably a good number of Chinese and Yugoslav SKS's saw action, and on and on. Besides Karma only applies to living things; Buddhists aren't Liberals or animists, they don't ascribe personalities to inanimate objects.

Plus the wormSht looking writing isnt my cup of tea

Iraq had one of the largest armies in the world prior to Desert Storm. Their soldiers were also battle hardened after the Iran conflict, the only reason they lost so quickly was the vast arenal of high tech weapons and soldiers that the US fielded. They wer crushed by air superiority alone. Iraq has a proud military history dting back thousands of years to the Babylonians. Incidently, Saddam thought he was the reincarnation of Nebuchanezzar.

Wow! What a train wreck of a thread this turned out to be  Who cares what the previous owner may or may not have done with the gun...it's just a gun.

I bought one for the historical aspect: good, bad or otherwise. I could care less what other's think. I'm surprised that they didn't make it to the States first.

I picked one up for the same reason. I did a bit of research before deciding to buy it, and you're not likely to find many of the Tariq's in the US. Plenty of Helwan's (Egyptian version of same gun - which are apparently garbage, if you believe what's on the US forums) but not too many of these puppies. A few have found their way stateside in the backpacks of returning soldiers, but they're not widespread at all. From what little I've been able to find out about the Tariq's, they're a very well made pistol.

I'm looking forward to seeing how mine shoots when I get it.

I was referring to Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom mostly in my post, where they got their asses kicked. These pistols probbaly did see use in the Iran-Iraq war where they probably could have killed someone and againts the Kurdish people. Regardless, I dont see how something like " this gun could have killed someone" would deter you from buying a firearm. You may aswell forget about most Milsurps then, because there is a good chance they did kill someone if they made it to the front.

You need to brush up on the history of the Iran-Iraq war. Once you do, your misconceptions regarding Iraq having a capable military will quickly disappear.

Iraq attacked Iran shortly after the Iranian revolution, when the latter country was in chaos. It was a surprise attack (no formal warning) and Iraqis used chemical weapons. And the Iranian army was not exactly a first class fighting force. But despite all those advantages, the Iraqis made little to no progress in eight years.

The idea of Iraq having a capable military is totally ludicrous and nothing but a myth perpetuated by Saddam and his 'Ministry of Information'. The only thing the Iraqi army could do with any degree of success is gassing civilians.

That's because the USA was covertly funding/supporting both sides to intentionally keep the region in chaos ;)

So what's the verdict on the crescent inside triangle marking some of them are sporting on the left side of the frame? Secret Police, Republican Guard.. someone bored at the factory? How many are floating around in this batch? (ie how many of you have the markings on yours?)

USA funding only commenced in 1982, and by that time Saddam already had his ass handed to him. The very reason USA got involved was because they were afraid of the consequences of the total defeat of Iraq (Iran's plan was to establish an 'Islamic Republic' in the middle east).

The "crescent" is actually the letter "J" in arabic

The triangle is the insignia for the Republican Guard, and the name of the Special Republican Guard in Arabic is "Al-Haris al-Jamhuri al-Khas‎". I'm guessing that is where the "J" fits in....this is based entirely on my google-fu abilities, so take it for what it's worth :p

That explains why they were funding Iraq, but why were they funding Iran at the same time?

Sounds quite logical to me, thanks. Guess we lucked out. :)
Haven't had it out to shoot and might not for awhile but I'll post pics in the next few days.

EEJayde: Has anyone told you you're one f-en cool chick today? LOL I think they're pretty cool pistols and probably a one-time chance to buy one.

Seriously, people are worried about whether a gun will bring bad karma?
