Anyone using a BLR in 7mm-08? How do you like it? How's the recoil with the straight/pistol grip stock?

Not sure if the Savage 99 was chambered in 7mm-08 but if so I'd like to hear about those too. Thanks.

I had a BLR in 7mm-08. Recoil was manageable considering the BLR is a pretty light gun and I had a very light optic (AimPoint) on it. Not sure I would have wanted to shoot several boxes of ammunition in a single range session, but for typical "hunting scenario" practice shooting it was never an issue.

If the nickel finish on my BLR hadn't tarnished badly, I'd still have it. It was a great gun for deer hunting in thick cover and the 7mm-08 round a perfect fit in my mind.

Not worried about recoil - I have a BLR in .358 and a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 WSM.

I was just thinking that a lever in .260 Rem would be almost perfect for a low recoil, accurate lever for varmints/deer/moose in varied terrain. Almost perfect except no such production lever exists as far as I know.

But BLRs are chambered in 7mm-08. Never shot one but I didn't think it would have much more recoil than a .260 Rem.

I think you will be hard pressed to find a cartridge that hits harder with less recoil - and is still easily available in commercial rifles. I was only able to take one deer with the 7mm-08, but the performance of the 140 grain Nosler Partition was impressive. Full penetration on a quartering to shot at 40 meters on a 4 point buck - he didn't go 50 meters before he was down.

I shot a friend rifle a few years ago and remember the recoil being rather mild, even from the bench. Pinging the 200 yard gong with open sights was a hoot considering my eyesight is not that great.

Own and shoot a blr 7-08:

Triggers are heavy.. Issue at range but not when hunting. Holds 4 in the mag, one up the pipe if that's your thing. Recoil is softer, really nice. If you reload, the chambers are tight. Mags limit the length that bullets can be seated. 20 inch barrel, and thin. Don't be surprised if you get 1.5-2 inch groupings at 100 yards with factory shells. Good tight woods shooting kind of gun, can reach out too. I limit shots to under 250 yds myself.

Mines picky when it comes to reloads. But found it shoots 139 grain Hornady interlock btsp the best for groups. Wanted it to shoot 140 accubonds, but have not found the magic combination yet.

Ideal gun for the area I hunt, fields, bush, cut lines. I do own a bolt action 30-06 that I like more than my blr 7mm08.

Have not shot moose or elk with the blr. Did whack some deer and a good sized black bear with it though.

I don't think of the blr 7-08, as an " only gun a guy needs" especially after trying many different reloads with it. But it's fun to shoot. Just like my bolt more. Seems to shoot everything well I put down its barrel.
